The NSW Biodiversity Conservation Trust (BCT), as part of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW), has an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Regional Conservation Officer to join our Northern Inland Regional Delivery team, supporting landholders and stakeholders to conserve and protect biodiversity on private land while contributing to the delivery of BCT programs, projects and partnerships across the region.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are strongly encouraged to apply, consideration will be given to all suitable applicants (GSE Rule 26).

About the role

The Biodiversity Conservation Trust (BCT) is seeking an Assistant Regional Conservation Officer to join our Northern Inland team and support the delivery of private land conservation programs across the region. Working as part of a collaborative team, you will engage directly with landholders, providing practical advice and support to help them meet the requirements of their conservation agreements and achieve positive biodiversity outcomes on their properties.

A key focus of the role will be preparing Site Values Reports, assisting with ecological monitoring activities, reviewing annual landholder reports, and supporting site visits across a diverse range of conservation agreements. You will also contribute technical and administrative support to regional conservation projects and programs, helping to deliver effective conservation outcomes on private land.

This role offers a mix of field-based, technical and stakeholder engagement work. You will work closely with landholders, conservation partners and internal teams, utilising your organisational skills, environmental knowledge and customer-focused approach to assist with project delivery, property assessments and conservation planning. It's an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about conservation and keen to make a meaningful contribution to protecting biodiversity across the Northern Inland region.

Key responsibilities:

  • Prepare site values reports
  • Assist the team ecologist in undertaking ecological monitoring
  • Support compliance, agreement management and reporting activities
  • Assist with site assessments, including fieldwork and spatial/GIS mapping
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with landholders

About You

You are a motivated and organised professional with a passion for conservation and a commitment to delivering positive outcomes for landholders and the environment. You enjoy working with people, are confident balancing multiple priorities, and can work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team. With strong communication skills, sound judgement and attention to detail, you thrive in a role that combines stakeholder engagement, technical work and field-based activities.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Relevant qualifications or experience in natural resource management, ecology, environmental science, conservation, agriculture, or a related field.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly and build productive relationships with landholders and other stakeholders.
  • Experience, or a willingness to develop expertise, in the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial data to support land management and conservation outcomes.
  • A practical, solutions-focused approach, with strong attention to detail, sound judgement and the ability to analyse information and develop practical outcomes.
  • A collaborative and adaptable work style, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team, undertake field work and regional travel, and a commitment to delivering positive conservation outcomes for landholders and the environment.

Essential Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or experience in natural resource management or biodiversity conservation
  • A current Australian Class C driver’s licence, ability and willingness to travel.

The role involves field work including conducting field-based ecological assessments and may include working in remote areas.
