Genesis Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Job Description: Assistant Vice President, Physical Therapy & Occupational Therapy Position Summary Genesis has built something genuinely rare: a full-spectrum MSK platform — surgery, therapy, imaging, and everything in between — operating across 16 clinics in Chicagoland, serving Medicaid patients at scale, and proving every day that accessible care and excellent care are the same thing. The surgical side is humming. The clinical model is proven. Now we're ready to build rehabilitation into the platform it was always supposed to be — tightly integrated, protocol-driven, financially sustainable, and deeply accessible to the patients who need it most. That's the AVP of PT & OT job. And it's one of the most consequential operational leadership roles at Genesis right now. The Role You'll own everything across PT and OT — strategy, operations, finance, talent, clinical quality, and growth — across a multi-site therapy operation that's expanding fast. You'll report directly to the COO, manage Clinic Managers and therapy office staff, and sit at the intersection of clinical excellence and operational performance. This isn't a pure desk job. You'll maintain 10–25% direct clinical productivity — staying close to the floor, modeling expectations, and keeping your instincts sharp. The best operational leaders in healthcare never fully leave the clinic, and we don't want you to. What You'll Drive Operations Own day-to-day operations across all PT/OT clinics: staffing, scheduling, patient throughput, and workflow standardization that actually scales Integrate therapy seamlessly with orthopedic clinics — reducing referral leakage and keeping patients inside the Genesis care pathway Build coverage models that work: in-person, hybrid, and tele-rehabilitation where the evidence and the patient population support it Growth & Access Expand the PT/OT footprint across Chicago and surrounding markets — identifying new locations based on referral patterns and payer mix Build systems that ruthlessly optimize speed-to-first-visit and patient retention Extend hours, add sites, and remove every friction point that stands between a patient and their first appointment Clinical Integration Partner with Genesis surgeons, PM&R physicians, and APPs to build protocol-driven rehabilitation pathways by diagnosis and procedure Embed PT/OT early — prehabilitation, conservative management, post-operative care — so therapy is part of the patient journey from the start, not an afterthought Align utilization with evidence-based guidelines and value-based care objectives Financial Performance Own the P&L for PT/OT service lines: revenue, expenses, contribution margin Optimize therapist productivity and reimbursement performance Build prior authorization discipline — timely submissions, minimal denials, tight alignment between approved visits and care plans Drive conservative management strategies that reduce total cost of care — for the patient and the system Data & Analytics Build and continuously refine operational dashboards that give leadership real-time visibility into what's working and what isn't Define and own KPIs across the therapy organization: visits per case, units per visit, therapist productivity, days to first visit, cancellation rates, referral conversion, authorization turnaround, functional outcomes, patient satisfaction Create a culture of data transparency where every Clinic Manager knows their numbers and owns their performance Talent Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing PT and OT clinicians and leaders across all markets Build and maintain academic partnerships with PT/OT programs to keep the hiring pipeline full Coach Clinic Managers to operational, financial, and clinical success Develop scalable staffing models — effective utilization of PTAs, COTAs, and support staff — that grow with the platform Strategic Execution Run 90-day OKRs for yourself and your direct reports, aligned to the broader organizational priorities Drive disciplined execution against growth, operational, and financial targets — quarter after quarter Who We're Looking For You're a licensed PT or OT in Illinois (or getting there) with 7+ years of progressive leadership experience in rehabilitation services and real multi-site operational chops. You understand outpatient therapy economics, billing, and reimbursement — not at a surface level, but well enough to own a P&L and defend it. You're an operator who came up through the clinic. You know what good therapy looks like from the inside. You can read a dashboard and read a patient. Both skills are required here. You're a builder. Genesis PT/OT has a strong foundation and significant room to grow. You see that gap and feel the urgency to close it — more locations, better integration, tighter protocols, stronger teams. You run toward data. You don't manage by instinct alone. You build dashboards, track KPIs, and hold teams accountable to metrics that actually connect to patient outcomes and financial performance. You develop people. The Clinic Managers who report to you will be better operators because of this role. That outcome matters to you, not just the numbers on the dashboard. You're mission-aligned. A significant portion of our patient population is on Medicaid or underinsured. Building a therapy platform that serves them — at the same standard as everyone else — is the job. That has to mean something to you. Orthopedic or MSK experience is a plus. Experience in value-based care models — bundles, capitation, episodic payments — is even better. Familiarity with Illinois Medicaid and commercial payer dynamics is a genuine advantage. The Stack Competitive base salary + performance/productivity bonus Health, dental, and vision insurance 401(k) with matching Paid time off Continuing education funds License reimbursement Disability and life insurance Flexible schedule Professional development opportunities Direct line to the COO and a seat at the table where the platform strategy gets built What Success Looks Like in Year One Reduced days to first visit — patients getting into therapy faster Referral leakage down, conversion rates up Therapist productivity and margin performance trending in the right direction Standardized dashboards and KPIs live and in use across the organization A hiring pipeline that's actually ahead of growth, not chasing it Quarterly OKRs hit — and a therapy organization that knows how to execute against them About Genesis Genesis Orthopedics & Sports Medicine is a full-spectrum MSK platform — surgery, physical therapy, and everything in between — operating across 16 clinics throughout Chicagoland. We run clinical trials. We serve Medicaid patients at scale. We've built a care delivery model that proves accessible care and excellent care aren't in conflict. Rehabilitation is central to that model. The AVP of PT & OT is the person who makes it perform at the level the rest of the platform deserves. If you're a rehabilitation leader who's ready to build something — and you want to do it inside a mission-driven, fast-moving MSK platform — we want to hear from you. Genesis Orthopedics & Sports Medicine is actively reviewing applications. Licensed PT or OT in Illinois required. Qualifications Required Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (DPT, OTD, MBA, MHA, or related) strongly preferred 7+ years of progressive leadership experience in PT/OT or rehabilitation services Multi-site operational leadership experience Strong understanding of outpatient therapy economics, billing, and reimbursement Licensed clinician (PT/OT) within Illinois upon hire date Preferred Experience in orthopedic or musculoskeletal care settings Experience in value-based care models (bundles, capitation, episodic payments) Demonstrated success scaling therapy operations Familiarity with Illinois Medicaid and commercial payer dynamics Core Competencies Operational rigor and execution discipline Data-driven leadership and dashboard fluency Talent development and coaching excellence Growth orientation with strong attention to access and retention Ability to integrate clinical quality with financial performance Strong communication and physician partnership skills Competitive salary package with potential for pay escalation via performance/productivity bonus 401(k) 401(k) matching Continuing education funds Disability insurance Flexible schedule Health insurance License reimbursement Life insurance Paid time off Professional development opportunities
