Associate Account Manager
Location: Pittsburgh, PA (Hybrid, on-site as needed)
Classification: Exempt
Status: Full-Time
Purpose
The Associate Account Manager serves as a developing strategic partner to assigned pharmaceutical manufacturer programs, bridging day-to-day operational support with account management responsibilities. This role supports manufacturer relationships, leads and coordinates manufacturer communications, monitors program performance, manages escalated cases and partner inquiries, coordinates cross-functional issue resolution, and contributes to the execution of business priorities. When applicable, this role also serves as a backup resource for Manufacturer Liaison responsibilities for assigned programs. The incumbent partners closely with Account Managers, Account Directors, pharmacy operations, reimbursement, data, and other internal stakeholders to ensure timely communication, effective program execution, and a high-quality manufacturer experience.
Responsibilities
- Supports assigned manufacturer programs by coordinating day-to-day operational activities, issue resolution, and partner communications in collaboration with Account Managers and Account Directors.
- Serves as a primary operational contact for assigned programs and an escalation support resource for manufacturer inquiries, service concerns, and access-related issues.
- Builds and maintains strong working relationships with internal teams and external manufacturer partners to support service excellence, responsiveness, and client satisfaction.
- Monitors program activity, operational trends, service-level expectations, and key performance indicators to identify risks, opportunities, and recommended follow-up actions.
- Coordinates with pharmacy operations, reimbursement, clinical, and other cross-functional teams to resolve complex program issues and ensure alignment on manufacturer deliverables.
- Assists in preparing program updates, meeting agendas, follow-up summaries, and actionable insights for internal leadership and manufacturer stakeholders.
- Demonstrates increasing ownership, independent judgment, and accountability for assigned program activities while developing toward full account management responsibilities.
- Provide guidance, training, or support to Manufacturer Liaisons on program processes, issue resolution, and manufacturer communication expectations.
- Serves as a backup resource for Manufacturer Liaison responsibilities when applicable for assigned programs.
- Completes special projects and additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, Pharmacy, Life Sciences, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in specialty pharmacy, healthcare operations, patient access, reimbursement support, pharmaceutical manufacturer services, client services, or a related healthcare environment.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex operational issues, partner inquiries, escalations, and cross-functional follow-up with limited supervision.
- Strong understanding of specialty pharmacy operations, referral management, insurance verification, reimbursement processes, claims adjudication, and patient access workflows.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate professionally with internal stakeholders and external manufacturer partners.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, track open items, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and other business software applications.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, demonstrate accountability, and work both independently and collaboratively across teams.
- Commitment to delivering a high-touch manufacturer and patient experience focused on quality, responsiveness, and continuous improvement.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a Manufacturer Liaison, Program Liaison, client services, or account support role.
- Experience supporting pharmaceutical manufacturer programs or specialty pharmacy partner relationships.
Experience preparing business review materials, program updates, dashboards, or executive-facing summaries.
Work Environment
This job functions in a professional home or office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and fax machines.
