About Us:

Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, Divcon delivers fully integrated automation solutions nationwide that optimize performance, energy efficiency, and reliability across HVAC, lighting, power monitoring, and mission-critical systems. Leveraging advanced technologies - including Allen-Bradley PLCs, Ignition SCADA, and Delta DDC systems - we combine deep technical expertise with field-tested execution to deliver precise, scalable, and high-performance solutions.

About the role:

The Associate Control Technician is an entry level field role for employees entering the controls technician career path. This role assists DDC and/or PLC technicians, supports active project work, and builds foundational knowledge while being able to independently perform basic technical field work once training milestones are met. This role is intended to create exposure to both DDC/BAS and PLC environments before the employee progresses into the Control Technician role and potential DDC or PLC specialization.

The Associate Control Tech is expected to follow jobsite safety requirements, maintain professional conduct, ask appropriate questions, document observations, and connect classroom concepts to real field environments.

This position requires regular travel. Per diem, lodging, and travel accommodation are provided in accordance with company policy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete Control Technician training program, consisting of in-classroom instruction and OJT (On the Job Training)
  • Assist DDC and/or PLC Control Technicians on active project sites to support installation verification, system configuration, commissioning, troubleshooting, and jobsite coordination activities.
  • Learn how to review project drawings and documentation, plan daily tasks, coordinate with other trades, and prioritize work in active construction environments.
  • Learn to identify common controls devices and systems, including controllers, sensors, field devices, panels, wiring, and network connections.
  • Assist with point-to-point verification of installed systems, directing questions or issues to the supervising Senior or Lead Technician.
  • Build foundational understanding of low-voltage controls, I/O, networking concepts, DDC/PLC controllers, safety practices, QA/QC documentation, and field recordkeeping.
  • Maintain a field notebook documenting observed tools, systems, jobsite workflow, questions, and learning items for end-of-week reflection and continued development.
  • Follow all jobsite safety rules, PPE requirements, LOTO direction, and professional conduct expectations.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to learn foundational controls concepts, including electricity, wiring, I/O, controllers, networking fundamentals, drawings, and commissioning levels.
  • Ability to follow direction from Senior and Lead Technicians and comply with jobsite safety and conduct requirements.
  • Basic computer skills and willingness to learn project software, controls software, and documentation platforms used by field teams.
  • Ability to communicate questions and observations clearly and professionally with technicians, project managers, and jobsite personnel.

Experience

  • Prior controls experience is not required; prior exposure to construction, electrical, HVAC, networking, or technical training is preferred.
  • Experience following structured training, safety instructions, or field work procedures is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel by plane or vehicle up to 95% based on work site locations.
  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs and lifts as required.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and work in tight or confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver equipment and materials up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity to handle tools, wiring, and small components.
  • Ability to work at heights and in varying indoor and outdoor conditions.
  • Capability to safely operate hand and power tools.
