As the Associate Director – New England Outside Plant (OSP) Engineering, you will provide operational leadership and technical direction for the design, engineering, and project management of physical telecommunications infrastructure across the New England territory. Leading a multi-tiered team of engineers and project managers, you will drive the expansion and modernization of our aerial, underground, and buried fiber optic network infrastructure to support Core, Fios, Fixed Wireless, and next-generation technologies.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Field Engineering & Construction, you will collaborate closely with construction operations, sourcing, local municipalities, and cross-functional partners to execute multi-million dollar capital build-outs safely, efficiently, on time, and within budget.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- OSP Infrastructure Design & Engineering: Oversee engineering teams tasked with designing complex optical distribution networks, Fiber-to-the-Cell Site (FTTCS), high-bandwidth/low-bandwidth (HBW/LBW) circuits, and route analysis for underground and aerial installations.
- Network Deployment Oversight: Direct end-to-end design initiation and project management for large-scale fiber optic infrastructure and transport asset deployments across major metropolitan and regional markets.
- Cross-Functional & Partner Alignment: Interface with Sourcing, External Suppliers, Construction Leadership, and Wireless teams (VZW) to assess capabilities, optimize costs, and align market-level deployment plans.
- Regulatory, Permitting & Right-of-Way (ROW): Oversee compliance and processes for securing municipal ROW permits, DOT clearances, environmental approvals, and joint-use pole attachment agreements.
- Fiscal Accountability & Cost Control: Manage annual capital expenditure (CapEx) and operating expense (OpEx) budgets, drive material oversight, anticipate technical challenges, and establish contingency plans to maintain schedules.
- People Leadership & Talent Development: Lead, mentor, and motivate a high-performing engineering organization; foster career pathways, promote continuous learning, and drive operational excellence.
- Innovation & Efficiency: Champion technological solutions and modern automation tools (including AI-driven workflows) to streamline design cycles and remove operational redundancies.
