POSITION OVERVIEW

At BDC, the only bank dedicated exclusively to Canadian entrepreneurs, the Associate, Growth & Transition Capital plays a key role in evaluating, structuring, and executing financing transactions that support business growth, ownership transitions, mergers, and acquisitions. Working as part of the deal team, you will perform investor-grade due diligence, financial analysis, and transaction assessments. Your work contributes directly to the success of Canadian businesses while supporting the growth of BDC’s Growth & Transition Capital portfolio.


CHALLENGES TO BE MET

  • Perform detailed financial analysis and financial modeling using historical and projected financial results to support investment and financing decisions.
  • Conduct market research, industry analysis, benchmarking, business valuation assessments, and financial forecasting.
  • Prepare SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analyses to evaluate company-specific and industry-related risks.
  • Review, investigate, and assess financing proposals to determine viability and alignment with BDC credit and investment standards.
  • Conduct due diligence activities and support the development of Growth & Transition Capital financing proposals.
  • Monitor and administer active Growth & Transition Capital accounts, ensuring appropriate risk management and portfolio oversight.
  • Identify opportunities to connect clients with BDC Financing and Advisory Services to address broader business needs.
  • Manage transaction processes, client communications, and negotiations related to Growth & Transition Capital activities.
  • Contribute to the development and growth of the Growth & Transition Capital portfolio while supporting Canadian entrepreneurs across various industries.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Financial advisory services
    • Transaction advisory services (Transaction Services)
    • Corporate finance
    • Commercial financing or lending
  • Experience performing financial analysis, financial modeling, and financial forecasting.
  • Experience conducting due diligence for financing, investment, merger and acquisition (M&A), or corporate finance transactions.
  • Knowledge of credit analysis, financing assessment, investment analysis, or risk evaluation.
  • Ability to assess business performance, financial risks, and transaction viability.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including financial modeling and analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Professional designation such as:
    • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA)
    • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)
  • Experience in business valuation.
  • Experience supporting mergers and acquisitions (M&A) transactions.
  • Experience using Capital IQ (S&P Capital IQ) or similar financial research and analysis platforms.
  • Bilingualism in English and French.
