Role Brief This role is responsible for establishing and managing the day-to-day finance function for Rawlinson Constructions, ensuring accurate and timely bookkeeping, payroll, accounts administration, and financial operations. Working closely with the leadership team, the successful candidate will take ownership of the end-to-end bookkeeping cycle, including payroll, supplier accounts, bank reconciliations, and job cost coding, while maintaining accurate financial records and supporting compliance requirements. Beyond technical capability, this role requires someone who is detail-oriented, proactive, and able to work independently, with the confidence to take ownership of the finance function, support continuous process improvements, and contribute to the ongoing growth of the business. Key Role Deliverables Manage end-to-end bookkeeping using Xero Process Accounts Payable and maintain supplier accounts Perform bank reconciliations and month-end bookkeeping activities Process payroll for all employees, including superannuation obligations Prepare information required for BAS, IAS and external accountant reporting Accurately allocate job costs and maintain project cost coding Maintain financial records, documentation and compliance requirements Support administration of Buildertrend and related construction workflows Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors and occasionally clients regarding finance-related matters Identify opportunities to improve and automate bookkeeping processes using AI and technology Provide accurate financial support while supporting the continued growth and day-to-day operations of the business Education Requirement Relevant qualification in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Finance or Business preferred Xero Certification is advantageous but not essential CPA / CA qualification is not required Minimum Years of Experience in similar role Approximately 3+ years in an end-to-end Bookkeeping or Finance Officer role Experience supporting Australian businesses is highly preferred Previous construction industry experience is advantageous but not essential Technical System Experience Strong hands-on experience using Xero (essential) Experience processing Australian payroll and superannuation Exposure to Buildertrend is highly desirable Experience with similar construction management platforms is considered transferable Experience using Google Workspace (Drive, Gmail) Comfortable leveraging AI tools to improve productivity and automate routine workflows Behavioural Competencies Strong sense of ownership and accountability Highly organized with excellent attention to detail Proactive and solutions-oriented Able to work independently while knowing when to escalate Strong planning and prioritization skills Comfortable collaborating in a small business environment Adaptable with a continuous improvement mindset Strong written and verbal communication skills Must Have Skills / Experience Proven experience in end-to-end Australian bookkeeping Strong working knowledge of Xero Australian payroll processing and superannuation experience Accounts Payable, bank reconciliations and month-end bookkeeping Ability to work independently and manage the complete bookkeeping cycle High level of accuracy and attention to detail Experience supporting multiple recurring finance processes with minimal supervision Strong communication skills with the confidence to liaise with suppliers, subcontractors and internal stakeholders Comfortable adopting AI tools to improve efficiency and automate repetitive tasks Ability to take ownership of the end-to-end finance function with minimal supervision
