VA4U is seeking a skilled and experienced Australian Accountant / Accounting Virtual Assistant to join our growing remote team. This is a challenging role designed for someone who excels in managing the full accounting cycle for Australian businesses—not just bookkeeping. You will take ownership of day-to-day financial operations, ensure compliance with Australian accounting standards and tax regulations, and provide reliable, high-quality accounting support to our clients. Key Responsibilities Manage the complete accounting cycle, from transaction processing to financial reporting Maintain accurate general ledger accounts and keep all financial records up to date Process Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable Conduct bank, credit card, loan, and balance sheet reconciliations Prepare and lodge BAS (Business Activity Statements) and IAS (Instalment Activity Statements) Prepare and reconcile GST reports in line with Australian tax regulations Process payroll, including leave entitlements, PAYG withholding, superannuation, and complying with Single Touch Payroll (STP) requirements Prepare monthly management reports, including Profit & Loss statements, Balance Sheets, and Cash Flow reports Complete month-end and year-end close procedures, covering journals, accruals, prepayments, depreciation, and reconciliations Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis Prepare workpapers and supporting documentation for external accountants and tax agents Ensure compliance with Australian accounting standards, tax requirements, and internal controls Identify discrepancies, investigate variances, and recommend process improvements Communicate professionally with clients, accountants, suppliers, and other stakeholders Support ad hoc accounting, finance, and administrative projects as required Requirements At least 3 years of Australian accounting experience within a firm or supporting Australian businesses Demonstrated expertise managing the full accounting cycle Solid understanding of Australian accounting principles, GST, BAS, IAS, payroll, PAYG, superannuation, and STP compliance Advanced user of Xero (preferred), and proficient with MYOB and/or QuickBooks Online Experience preparing financial statements and month/year-end reports Ability to analyse financial data and resolve discrepancies independently Outstanding attention to detail with a high level of accuracy Strong organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills Excellent written and verbal English Able to work independently and juggle multiple priorities Available to work during Australian business hours (AEST) Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field CPA, CA, or equivalent accounting accreditation is advantageous Experience supporting Australian accounting firms or multiple SME clients Familiarity with cloud-based accounting, document management software, and payroll platforms What We Offer Permanent Work From Home arrangement Full-time, long-term employment Immediate start Opportunity to work with a variety of Australian businesses across different industries Supportive, collaborative remote team culture Professional development and career growth opportunities
