Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Technical Writer to support AWS Boost, an integrated product used by data center operations teams to plan and execute data center lifecycle management activities.
AWS Boost connects three critical pillars of data center operations: Processes, Parts, and People. As the platform evolves into a modernized product for global deployment, this role will be responsible for creating clear, accurate, scalable, and user-focused technical documentation.
The Technical Writer will partner closely with Software Engineers, Product Managers, UX Designers, Data Center Operations teams, and other technical stakeholders to translate complex software functionality and operational workflows into easy-to-follow documentation.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience creating end-user documentation, developer guides, API documentation, onboarding materials, process documentation, and release notes, with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
Key Responsibilities
The ideal candidate is a hands-on Technical Writer who can independently own documentation from discovery through publication. You should be comfortable working with engineers and product teams, asking detailed technical questions, validating functionality, and turning complex systems into simple instructions that users can confidently follow.
Experience with AWS, data center operations, infrastructure, APIs, Docs-as-Code, Git, and global enterprise products will be highly valuable.

Key Responsibilities
- Create, edit, and maintain task-based user guides, onboarding materials, FAQs, release notes, and technical documentation.
- Develop developer-facing content including API references, developer guides, process-authoring documentation, and workflow documentation.
- Work directly with software engineers, product managers, and UX designers to understand product functionality and technical requirements.
- Convert complex software workflows and operational processes into clear, concise, step-by-step instructions.
- Develop and maintain documentation standards, templates, style guidelines, and information architecture.
- Validate technical documentation by testing procedures and verifying information against the product.
- Maintain documentation throughout the software development and release lifecycle.
- Partner with global operations teams to ensure documentation remains accurate as features are launched across multiple regions.
- Gather feedback from data center technicians, managers, and service owners and use that feedback to improve documentation.
- Improve documentation usability, findability, consistency, and content quality.
- Work with localization/globalization teams to ensure content is appropriate for a worldwide audience.
- Create diagrams, screenshots, process flows, and other visual aids when required.
- Collaborate with engineering and product teams during technical reviews and release planning.
- 3+ years of professional Technical Writing experience focused on software, technology products, or technical systems.
- Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, English, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Proven ability to create clear, concise, task-based technical documentation.
- Experience developing documentation for both technical and non-technical audiences.

- Ability to provide a strong technical writing portfolio or writing samples.
- Experience documenting enterprise software, operational software, workflow automation platforms, or infrastructure technologies.
- Experience with data center operations, hardware lifecycle management, inventory management, or field operations tools.
- Experience with Docs-as-Code methodologies.
- Strong understanding of Git and version control.
- Experience integrating documentation into CI/CD and software release pipelines.
- Experience creating API documentation from OpenAPI, Smithy, or similar specifications.
- Experience developing information architecture and documentation standards for new or rapidly growing products.
- Experience writing documentation for global, multi-region, and ESL audiences.
- UX writing, instructional design, in-product help, or microcopy experience.
