Back-end Developer

Buildings generate data all day long. You make sure something smart happens with it: your code turns it into insights that owners of commercial real estate base their decisions on.

At Healthy Workers, you'll build our platform that uses AI and machine learning to map the energy use of every building, and turns it into clear insights. You'll work in a small team where your features matter from day one.

About Healthy Workers

Healthy Workers is an Amsterdam-based AI SaaS scale-up and the market leader in building optimisation for commercial real estate. Owners of commercial real estate are under real pressure to make their buildings more sustainable. Our platform helps them do that: we connect to the installations in buildings and collect data in order to make them run smarter, using less energy and giving people more comfort. We work directly with those owners. After the Netherlands, we're now rolling out in Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany, with the rest of Europe next.

We're a scale-up. It's informal, lines are short, and you'll work closely with the founders every day.

What you'll do

You'll join our Product team and own features end to end, from an idea to running in production.

• Build APIs, data models and integrations in Kotlin

• Help build AI features that control building systems more intelligently

• Work with our Data team to connect new data sources, so Healthy Workers is the single source of truth for all building and customer data

• Fix bugs and keep production healthy

• Review other people's code and get yours reviewed, always within one working day

• Learn our domain, including SkySpark, our building analytics platform

What your week roughly looks like:

~60% building: APIs, data models, integrations and AI features

~20% maintenance, devops and infra: bugs, monitoring, CI/CD and infrastructure

~10% code reviews and security (pentests and ISO)

~10% stand-ups, refinement, sprint planning and retros

Our stack

Kotlin, Micronaut, MySQL, BigQuery, Docker, Kubernetes, GitLab CI, Terraform, Google Cloud Platform and SkySpark. We plan in Linear.

Coming from Java? Perfect! Most of Kotlin will feel familiar quickly, and you'll learn the rest from colleagues who write it every day.

What you bring

Must-haves:

• A few years of experience as a back-end developer with Java or Kotlin

• Solid SQL skills, and you've built REST APIs that run in production

• Experience with Docker and CI/CD. If you don't know Kubernetes yet, you'll learn it here

• You're curious and keep improving yourself

• You can explain technical choices clearly to colleagues in Product, Data and Technical Customer Success

• You are fluent in English and live in the Netherlands

Nice to have:

• Experience with Terraform, GitLab CI or Google Cloud Platform

• Knowledge of C#

• Experience in a small product team at a scale-up

• An interest in building, energy or sensor data
