THE ROLE

As a Software Engineer, Backend at Codeway, you will design, build, and operate the scalable backend services that power mobile apps and web experiences used by millions. You won't just write code; you will own features end-to-end - from initial system design and AI integration to deployment and production monitoring - with a strong focus on API quality, performance, and reliability.

You will collaborate with mobile, product, AI, and DevOps teams to ship features end to end, bringing AI-powered capabilities into production where relevant.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Design and implement scalable systems. Build high-performance backend architectures and microservices/RESTful APIs for mobile and web clients using Node.js and Python.

• Own features end-to-end. Take full responsibility for the lifecycle of your services, from ideation and implementation through to deployment (GCP/Firebase) and continuous optimisation.

• Integrate AI and media workflows. Deploy, monitor, and support LLMs and media workflows (STT/TTS, image/video/audio processing) in production, managing model serving, inference performance, and latency/cost tradeoffs.

• Architect asynchronous workflows. Implement robust event-driven systems using queues and tasks to handle heavy media and AI workloads.

• Simplify systems. Evaluate every component and process to remove unnecessary complexity and build minimalist, future-proof architectures.

• Optimise performance. Proactively identify bottlenecks across distributed systems to improve latency, throughput, reliability, and costs.

• Ensure backend quality. Establish robust error handling, security best practices, and end-to-end observability, and contribute to code quality through reviews, testing, and documentation.

• Troubleshoot and stabilise. Debug issues and proactively improve system stability and observability in production environments.

• Collaborate cross-functionally. Partner with Mobile, Frontend, Product, DevOps, and AI teams to design and ship impactful features.

What You’ll Bring

• Experience. 3+ years of professional experience as a Backend Engineer, with a track record of building consumer-facing products at scale.

• Technical excellence. Strong hands-on proficiency in both Node.js and Python, with a deep understanding of CS fundamentals, data structures, algorithms, and system design.

• System design. Experience designing and working with microservices architectures and RESTful APIs, with a solid grasp of databases, data modelling, performance optimisation, and security best practices.

• Infrastructure knowledge. Hands-on experience with cloud environments such as GCP, AWS, or Azure (GCP and/or Firebase preferred), with strong production debugging and observability habits.

• AI familiarity. Experience deploying and optimising AI models in production, including familiarity with external AI APIs and their performance considerations.

• Scale. Ability to contribute effectively in high-scale environments handling large volumes of traffic and data, with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

• Communication. Proficiency in English and Turkish, with the ability to explain complex engineering decisions and trade-offs clearly to both technical and non-technical teams.

• Education. A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting mobile apps through backend APIs.

• Experience with GCP tools such as Pub/Sub, Cloud Run, GKE, BigQuery, Cloud Functions, or App Engine.

• Familiarity with containerisation and orchestration tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps best practices.

• Familiarity with SSE or WebSockets for real-time communication.

• Experience with message brokers such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or SQS.
