Backend Engineer

Hybrid working in the Delft.

Salary is DOE - €75,000 - €100,000.

We’re working with a technically ambitious Healthcare AI software company building and operating complex, high-performance systems at scale. They’re looking for a Backend Engineer (TypeScript/Node.js/Python) who enjoys solving challenging engineering problems, designing robust backend systems, and taking genuine ownership of how software is built, deployed and operated.

The role

You’ll play a key role in developing and evolving the backend systems that power a demanding AI-driven platform. Working across application development, system architecture and infrastructure, you’ll help ensure the platform remains reliable, scalable and performant as it grows.

You’ll be involved in:

• Designing and building backend services using TypeScript, Node.js and Python.
• Developing reliable, scalable and maintainable systems for demanding production workloads.
• Working with cloud environments across GCP/Azure and on-premise infrastructure.
• Optimising system performance, reliability and resource utilisation.
• Working close to Linux-based environments, networking and underlying infrastructure.
• Improving deployment pipelines, automation, monitoring and observability.
• Troubleshooting complex issues across application, operating system and infrastructure layers.
• Taking ownership of technical decisions and continuously improving engineering practices.

What we’re looking for

We’re particularly interested in backend engineers with strong software engineering fundamentals who are comfortable working beyond the application layer. You should enjoy understanding how systems work under the hood, investigating complex problems and building solutions that perform reliably in production.

You’ll ideally have:

• Strong TypeScript/Node.js experience and a solid backend engineering background.
• Experience with Python or another complementary programming language.
• A good understanding of backend architecture, APIs, system design and production services.
• Strong Linux knowledge and an understanding of operating systems and networking.
• Experience working with cloud infrastructure and/or on-premise environments.
• Exposure to DevOps, platform engineering, SRE or infrastructure-heavy software environments.
• Experience improving system performance, scalability, reliability and deployment processes.
• A proactive approach to debugging, automation and engineering quality.
• The ability to investigate problems across both software and infrastructure.
