Project Scope: Full-Time Engineering Role

Location: Remote - Open to candidates across the MENA region, including candidates based in Gaza and the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

Role Type: Full-Time Contractor

Reports to: You will work closely with the founders and product team to design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs, translating product and customer needs into secure and reliable features.

Time-zone overlap requirement: Must be comfortable and available to collaborate 9am–1pm Pacific time.
The opportunity
Our client is looking for a Backend Engineer to help build and improve an AI-powered legal technology platform. The platform helps law firms handle new-client inquiries and automate workflows. This is an opportunity to join a small team where engineers work closely with the founders and product team, helping shape features from idea through production. The role will involve backend development, AI/LLM integrations, databases, APIs, and cloud services.

Our client builds AI-powered legal technology that helps law firms handle new-client inquiries and automate workflows. The team is focused on building practical software that improves how legal teams manage customer interactions and internal processes.
What you will do

Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs.

Translate product/customer needs into secure, reliable features from design through production.

Design database schemas, migrations, and customer-data access rules.

Integrate AI/LLM services into production workflows with checks for errors and unreliable results.

Build messaging, document-processing, and workflow-automation integrations.

Deploy and monitor containerized cloud services.

Collaborate with founders and the product team on technical decisions and product improvements.
Requirements
What you bring
Must-haves:
-
3 years of backend or full-stack engineering experience.
-
Strong TypeScript skills and production experience with Node.js.

Experience building APIs and working with relational databases, especially PostgreSQL.

Good understanding of secure data access and reliable production services.

Experience deploying services using containers and cloud platforms.

Hands-on experience integrating AI or LLM services into software products.
-
Clear communication, sound judgment, and comfort working in a small team with changing priorities.
Nice-to-have: Spanish speaking is a big plus.
