The Role

We are looking for a Backend Software Engineer with approximately 3–6 years of professional experience to strengthen our software development team.

You will participate in the design, implementation, testing, and maintenance of secure and scalable backend services powering our Strix platform. You will work closely with frontend developers, product management, QA, and DevOps to deliver enterprise software used by financial authorities across multiple jurisdictions.

This position offers the opportunity to work on technically challenging software while contributing to projects that have a real impact on the fight against financial crime.

Responsibilities

• Develop backend based on clean code
• Close in touch with product owner to deliver features with excellent quality
• Quality Assurance: Develop unit and integration tests to ensure functionality
• Reviewing pull requests
• Design, develop, and maintain backend services using C# and .NET
• Develop RESTful APIs and microservices
• Participate in system architecture discussions and technical design
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
• Optimize application performance and scalability
• Design and maintain SQL Server database structures and queries
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to engineering best practices
• Troubleshoot production issues and implement sustainable solutions
• Collaborate with frontend developers, QA engineers, DevOps, and Product Owners
• Participate in Agile development processes
• Contribute to secure software development practices
• Prepare technical documentation where appropriate

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
• Approximately 3–6 years of professional software development experience
• Strong experience with C# and .NET 8+
• Experience developing REST APIs
• Quality Assurance
• Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, OneNote), Teams

o Strong in Excel

• Required Experience in Microsoft Software Stack

o MS Windows Server, SQL Server, Microsoft Azure

• Good understanding of object-oriented design principles and software architecture
• Experience using Git and collaborative development workflows
• Familiarity with unit and integration testing
• Understanding of authentication and authorization concepts (OAuth2, OpenID Connect, JWT)
• Must reside in Austria, have EU citizenship or have existing work permit, work from home, meetings in-person occur in Vienna
• English working language

• Experience with ASP.NET Core
• Experience with Entity Framework Core
• Experience with Azure or other cloud platforms
• Experience with distributed systems and microservice architectures
• Knowledge of messaging technologies
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps preferred)

According to the collective bargaining agreement, the gross monthly salary for pay grade ST1 Standard Level is €3.954,00. FTS is willing to overpay according previous experience level.

Must reside in Austria in Vienna or surrounding area, have EU citizenship or have existing work permit, work from home, meetings in-person occur in Vienna.
