University Health Services (UHS) offers award-winning, high quality medical, mental health, prevention, and wellness services to enrolled UW-Madison students. As a part of UHS, Badger Recovery connects and supports students in or considering recovery from substance use, eating disorders, and/or addictive behaviors. Our program offers weekly recovery meetings, recovery-informed social events, and recovery coaching. Badger Recovery embraces all definitions of recovery, whether that includes abstinence or harm reduction, and offers a welcoming and judgment-free space to support students on their personal recovery journey. We put our recovery first and embody our values of community, inclusion, open-mindedness, compassion, accountability, service, and well-being in all of our services. |

Schedule:
|
Hours can range depending on the week; some Student Assistants work closer to 5 hours while others work closer to 10 hours. This varies based on specialization responsibilities and available projects. The work schedule will include committing to a weekly team meeting, biweekly check-in with a supervisor, and occasional weekend events (at least monthly). Candidates will also commit to supporting Badger Recovery recovery meetings/events 1-2 evenings during the week. This semester, meeting options will take place Mondays (6:15-8:20pm) and Wednesdays (5:45-7:20pm), though meeting times may change in future semesters; we may be adding an AA meeting on Tuesdays as well. Biweekly Friday Hangs take place 4:45-7:15pm on Fridays. Most other responsibilities can be conducted remotely. |

REQUIRED (All 3 specializations): • Currently enrolled as a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison • Experience in recovery and willingness to speak about personal recovery to students and campus partners • Comfortable supporting students with all pathways to recovery (i.e. harm reduction, moderation, abstinence)
PREFERRED (All 3 specialization): • Available for more than 2 semesters |

REQUIRED (All 3 specializations): • Strong organizational skills, time management skills and ability to meet deadlines • Flexible and team-oriented • Excellent interpersonal skills • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Ability to work in a remote and in-person environment • Graphic design and social media experience required for Graphic Design/Social Media Assistant specialization
PREFERRED (Community Engagement/Events Assistant): • Experience with collegiate recovery programs, like Badger Recovery • Experience with or willingness to learn group facilitation skills and trauma-informed practices (training provided) • Experience with event planning, coordinating, and hosting • Strong organizational skills and experience with project management • Excellent interpersonal skills • Experience with community engagement • Understanding of recovery culture and experience with recovery meetings

PREFERRED (Social Media/Graphic Design Assistant): • Excellent graphic design skills, particularly with Canva • Experience with outreach and managing social media platforms, particularly Instagram • Major related to marketing, business, branding, design, or other relevant field • Strong knowledge of best practices around branding • Strong follow-through on tasks and ability to meet deadlines • Experience with collegiate recovery programs, like Badger Recovery

Position Summary/Job Duties:
|
We plan to hire 3 Student Assistants, with each specializing in a different area: 1) Community Engagement/Events, 2) Outreach/Service and 3) Social Media/Graphic Design. Please indicate your preferred specialization(s) in your cover letter.
Community Engagement/Events Assistant (5-10 hours per week, likely 7-8 hours): • Assist with event planning and hosting • Plan most regular programming, campus collaborations, and special activities based on student feedback a semester in advance • Coordinate event logistics day of the event, including set up and take down • Track event supply inventory and notify staff of needs • Welcome newcomers and create welcome packets • Compile weekly lists of upcoming events for meetings and weekly newsletter • Stay 30 minutes late after events for fellowship • Facilitate at least one recovery meeting per week and develop ideas to enhance recovery meetings • Attend biweekly 1:1 meeting with supervisor and weekly team meeting • Duties as assigned
Outreach/Service Assistant (5-10 hours per week, likely 7-8 hours): • Assist Manager with developing outreach plan to raise awareness of BR • Represent Badger Recovery at UW-Madison resource fairs and outreach meetings • Connect Badger Recovery to both campus and community partners • Provide classroom presentations about Badger Recovery services • Assist Manager with developing on-campus and community service opportunities • Coordinate sign-ups for service positions in Badger Recovery meetings • Assist Manager with building Badger Recovery Outreach Ambassador program • Help staff create Ally Training • Facilitate at least one recovery meeting per week and develop ideas to enhance recovery meetings • Attend biweekly 1:1 meeting with supervisor and weekly team meeting • Duties as assigned
Social Media/Graphic Design Assistant (~5 hours per week for 2026-27 year; 5-10 hours per week in future years if renewed): • Shadow current Social Media Student Assistant (graduating in the spring) to learn about BR branding and assist with Canva designs as needed; will oversee Canva designs for all events/programming once current Student Assistant graduates • Manage Instagram and answers messages • Reformat and redesign PowerPoints/handouts to be more appealing • Obtain approval for flyers from communications team and make appropriate edits • Post on Instagram by deadlines and share posts with campus partners • Create engaging reels • Attend biweekly 1:1 meeting with supervisor and weekly team meeting • Attend some events, such as biweekly Friday Hangs, biweekly Monday night community dinners, and other programming • Take photos of activities and assigns photo responsibilities when not in attendance • Duties as assigned
