The Billing Development Lead supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Firmwide billing processes, technology solutions, and related initiatives. Working closely with the Billing Development Senior Manager and stakeholders across Accounting, Billing, IT, and other areas of the Firm, the Lead manages assigned projects and workstreams, evaluates processes and systems, develops solutions and process improvements, and supports successful implementation and adoption. The position serves as an emerging subject matter expert on billing processes and technology and applies a broad understanding of the revenue cycle to promote consistent practices, effective training, and operational improvements across the Billing function.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead assigned billing development projects and workstreams from planning through implementation, coordinating stakeholders, deliverables, documentation, timelines, and follow-up activities.
  • Evaluate billing processes and systems, conduct root cause analysis, and recommend and implement improvements that enhance efficiency, consistency, and effectiveness.
  • Serve as a subject matter resource on billing technology solutions, processes, and procedures, providing guidance and support to Billing personnel.
  • Partner with Firmwide Accounting and Billing management to develop and implement billing procedures, training materials, and tools that support consistent practices across offices.
  • Support billing system implementations, conversions, and upgrades by documenting business requirements, coordinating testing, identifying issues, and supporting deployment and post-implementation activities.
  • Collaborate with billing partners, Billing personnel, IT, other Firm departments, and clients, as appropriate, to address questions, resolve implementation issues, and support billing initiatives.
  • Develop and deliver onboarding and training for Billing personnel and contribute to the ongoing development of the global Billing training program, including travel to U.S. offices as needed.
  • Maintain the Billing Knowledge Base and related process documentation to ensure information remains accurate, current, and accessible to the Billing team.
  • Coordinate with Sidley IT and other internal teams on billing technology issues and action items, tracking progress and facilitating timely resolution.
  • Perform due diligence and ad hoc analysis to support billing initiatives, process improvements, and informed decision-making.

Education and/or Experience:

Required:

  • Associate's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in billing, financial operations, financial analysis, operational analysis, or a related area.
  • Experience evaluating business processes, conducting root cause analysis, and developing or implementing process improvements.
  • Experience supporting or leading projects involving business processes, systems, or technology implementations.
  • Experience with 3E or comparable legal billing or financial management technology.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders across functions and organizational levels.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience working in a law firm or other professional services environment.
  • Experience developing and delivering training or onboarding related to billing processes or technology.

The target salary range for this role is:

$148,200 to $211,150 if located in Illinois

Salaries vary by location and are based on numerous factors, including, but not limited to, the relevant market, skills, experience, and education of the selected candidate.
