The Biomed Manager will provide proactive, responsive, testing and repairs of all Biomedical equipment of the facility. Perform routine, complex and specialized tasks involved in the installation and maintenance of clinical equipment as defined by equipment involved in the treatment, care, diagnosis, and monitoring of patients. The Manager will work with Hospital Directors and Managers in all patient care areas to ensure contracted Preventative Maintenance reports are recorded and reviewed for best practices as it relates to regulatory and financial compliance. Works with the Director of Facilities to prepare the annual department budget and tracks monthly labor, materials and purchase services costs.

Essential Duties:

  • Adheres to policies and procedures to achieve department objectives.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of department budget. Prepares the fiscal needs of the department.
  • Communicates provision of services through Director of Facilities for appropriate levels of qualified, competent staff, and ensures Policies and procedures are in place to support scope of services.
  • Implements a Biomedical Equipment Management Program and coordinates the preventive maintenance and repair aspects of the Program. Generates all reports pertaining to department.
  • Represents the department in various hospital committee meetings as requested by the Director of Facilities.
  • Maintains administrative and regulatory requirements and records.
  • Coordinates and integrates department services on interdepartmental, and hospital wide levels.
  • Maintains performance improvement and quality control activities that support the department and the hospital.
  • Document the introduction of new equipment, corrective and preventive maintenance actions and special requests as required.
  • Assist Diagnose and correct system and equipment malfunctions by making repairs. Ensure that clinical equipment meets specified requirements.
  • Assist departments in capital equipment planning; assist in identifying and recommending replacement of equipment that is obsolete, has extensive repair history, or has identified safety issues.
  • Work with Materials Management and departments to ensure that all incoming clinical equipment is inspected per departmental policy.
  • Report all patient safety issues to director and assist with correction of issue as required.
  • Improve or make special test setups to conduct functional checks of medical electronic test equipment.
  • Serve as a resource to Hospital Employees in the proper operation and maintenance of clinical equipment
  • Notify user departments regarding status of repairs and works with departments to obtain loaner or replacement equipment as required.
  • Meet departmental performance indicator standards on a consistent basis.
  • Answer phones in a pleasant manner; screen and refer calls as appropriate; deliver messages and provide information to staff, visitors, and patients, upon request.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Effectively prioritize tasks and maintain required levels of productivity.
  • Demonstrate initiative and concern for planning, time utilization, and cost containment.
  • Works with Office Support to prepare payroll for department.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with fellow workers, nursing and medical staff, and the general public.
  • Ensure all hospital departments understand and report all contracted preventative maintenance contracts for all patient care equipment per 2008 Joint Commission survey.
  • Interview and evaluate the qualifications and competence of staff and designs orientation that integrates employees needs as well as hospital and department requirements. Completes annual evaluations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Req Associate’s Degree Technology, Management, Biomedical Engineering, Electronic Engineering
  • Req 5 years Experience in related field at Academic Medical Center
  • Req 5 years Experience in a medium sized hospital as the Supervisor or Manager of Biomedical Engineering.
  • Req Demonstrated ability to write clearly such material as reports and analyses, read and interpret complex written materials, and solve complex problems logically and systematically.
  • Req Organization/time management skills.
  • Req Excellent analytical, problem-solving, planning and evaluation skills.
  • Req Demonstrates ability to utilize effective, appropriate and diplomatic oral and written communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pref Bachelor’s Degree Technology, Management, Biomedical Engineering, Electronic Engineering

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)

The annual base salary range for this position is $99,507.00 - $164,559.00.
