Board Member Provide governance & financial acumen to contribute to a board delivering transformative healthcare to Southland/Otago communities Apply Now! About Us The Southern Charity Hospital Trust was established in 2019 following Blair Vining’s highly-publicised battle with terminal bowel cancer. The hospital was founded by the community, for the community. The Hospital provides free services to those in the southern half of New Zealand who are unable to access care through the public or private health systems. Currently the hospital provides colonoscopies to patients from the Southern District Health Board Zone (which covers Southland and Otago), as well as daycase surgical procedures and dental care. It is anticipated that services will expand over time in accordance with the needs of the community. The Southern Charity Hospital does not receive any Government funding. Instead, it relies on donations, grants, and the generosity of the wider community keen to help Southerners in need. About the Role Now an integral player in the Southland healthcare community, the Southern Charity Hospital has an opportunity for a passionate, professional to join as a Board Member on an established and experienced Board of Trustees. The Board has the overall responsibility for securing funding streams, driving community support, and overseeing the hospital to ensure quality service is provided. This role is a rewarding pro-bono governance role and would suit a dynamic individual with financial and governance expertise that is excited about transformative change for regional healthcare. About You: The successful applicant will share the values and drive to go the extra mile to deliver on Blair Vining’s mission of better health care for all New Zealanders’. A fundamental passion and empathy for the Southern Charity Hospital project is a must along with: · Prior experience working at a governance level, ideally with chair experience. · An affinity for healthcare and understanding of the challenges. · A willingness to work strategically and collaboratively. · Strong financial acumen. · Curiosity and independence of thought. · Diplomatic and constructive approach to challenge countering opinions. · Proven ability to develop relationships with key stakeholders. A good person is a good fit to become a contributing member of this Board, where you’ll see the direct benefit of engaging with volunteer teams and the Clinical Committee to drive the hospital forward to meet future unmet healthcare needs for the community. Time Commitment The position will require attendance at 10 Board Meetings together with an Annual Strategy Meeting initially, reducing to 5 per annum over time. There is the potential for sub-committee involvement. Access by phone and email will be required intermittently between Board Meetings. Applications Application link below.
