Role Description The Board Member – Treasurer is a volunteer role responsible for overseeing the financial health and integrity of Friends of the Ottawa Public Library Association. This Ottawa region based position involves reviewing and monitoring financial statements, tracking revenues and expenses, and ensuring accurate financial reporting to the board. The Treasurer collaborates with other board members on annual budgeting, financial planning, and funding allocations to support FOPLA’s programs and initiatives. Day-to-day activities include maintaining financial records, supporting preparation of year-end reports, advising on financial policies, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and best practices for nonprofit governance. The Treasurer also participates in board meetings, contributes to strategic decision-making, and provides clear financial updates to help guide organizational priorities.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience with Finance, Financial Planning, and Budgeting to support nonprofit or community-focused organizations.
  • Strong skills in Accounting and preparing or reviewing Financial Statements with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Understanding of nonprofit financial management, including fund allocation, reporting requirements, and basic regulatory considerations.
  • Ability to interpret financial data, communicate key insights to a diverse board, and support informed decision-making.
  • Previous board, committee, or governance experience in a volunteer or nonprofit setting is an asset.
  • Commitment to FOPLA’s mission, comfort working remotely, and willingness to contribute time consistently to board duties.
  • Relevant education and professional designation
