Job Title: Bookkeeper About the Client: Our client is a growing multi-location dermatology and medical practice organization based in Northern Virginia. The practice is focused on providing specialized skin cancer and dermatologic care across its locations. Overview: The Bookkeeper will be responsible for the day-to-day accounting, financial close, reconciliations, and monthly financial reporting functions across multiple practice and related entities. This role requires someone who can take ownership of the accounting process, maintain accurate financial records, identify discrepancies, and provide reliable financial information to support business decisions. The Bookkeeper will work closely with the Practice Owner, Practice Administrator, and outside CPA/accounting firm. Responsibilities: Manage and maintain accurate books in QuickBooks Online for multiple practice and related entities. Review, categorize, and record financial transactions and maintain an organized general ledger. Prepare journal entries and maintain supporting accounting schedules and documentation. Manage accounts payable, including invoice review, vendor records, payments, and outstanding obligations. Perform monthly bank, credit card, payroll, and balance sheet reconciliations. Investigate and resolve unreconciled transactions, discrepancies, duplicate payments, and unusual activity. Reconcile payroll activity and ensure accurate recording of wages, payroll taxes, benefits, deductions, and related liabilities. Own and maintain the monthly financial close process, including accruals, reconciliations, journal entries, and close schedules. Prepare monthly financial reporting, including P&L, balance sheet, cash position, budget-to-actual performance, AP summaries, and key financial trends. Review financial results and proactively identify significant variances, unusual transactions, and emerging financial concerns. Assist with budgeting, budget-to-actual reporting, cash-flow forecasting, and financial analysis. Maintain clear financial separation and appropriate expense allocation across entities, locations, departments, and business units. Assist with intercompany accounting and transactions between medical practice and related real estate or property entities. Support the development and standardization of accounting and reporting processes across multiple locations. Identify opportunities to strengthen financial controls and accounting processes. Serve as the primary day-to-day accounting contact for the outside CPA/accounting firm. Prepare financial schedules, reconciliations, reports, and supporting documentation for CPA review and year-end accounting. Assist with year-end close and tax preparation. Maintain strict confidentiality of payroll, compensation, banking, financial, tax, and business information. Proactively communicate accounting, cash-flow, control, or financial concerns to leadership. Qualifications: Significant professional experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or financial reporting. Advanced experience with QuickBooks Online. Strong knowledge of accrual accounting and general ledger accounting. Proven experience with monthly financial close and account reconciliations. Strong accounts payable and vendor management experience. Experience with payroll accounting and reconciliation. Experience preparing and interpreting P&L statements and balance sheets. Strong ability to investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies independently. Strong analytical skills, financial judgment, and attention to detail. Excellent written and spoken English. Strong organizational and deadline-management skills. Ability to work independently and take ownership of accounting responsibilities. Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-accounting leadership. High level of discretion and confidentiality. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's or associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Professional accounting background. Experience supporting U.S.-based businesses. Experience with multi-entity and multi-location organizations. Experience in medical, healthcare, or dermatology practices. Experience with intercompany accounting and shared expense allocation. Experience with budgeting and cash-flow forecasting. Previous experience as a Senior Accountant, Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, Controller, or similar role.
