The Finance team is a key financial and risk control function, accountable for helping ensure trading and commercial activities operate within a robust control framework while enabling business growth.
Reporting to the Head of Finance for T&S in Brazil, the Commodity Risk Manager is accountable for integrated finance and commodity risk support across Brazil-related trading and commercial activities, including power, sugar and ethanol. The role provides independent challenge and business partnership to Trading, Origination, Marketing & Origination and support functions, with responsibility for finance insight, commodity risk oversight, valuation, controls and decision support across the portfolio.
Following the Bioenergy integration, the role connects activities across commodities and businesses to promote consistent standards, transparent risk and performance insight, and effective end-to-end controls. The role directly leads a team of four finance and risk professionals, setting priorities, developing capability and ensuring high-quality delivery in a dynamic trading environment.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead finance and commodity risk support across Brazil-related commodities, including power, sugar and ethanol, providing an integrated view of performance, exposures and emerging risks.
- Provide independent, constructive challenge to trading and commercial activity, helping ensure compliance with applicable finance, commodity risk, control and delegation requirements.
- Partner with Traders, Originators and cross-functional teams to evaluate new business opportunities, transactions and portfolio initiatives, including their valuation, accounting, risk, credit, working capital and control implications.
- Deliver clear reporting and analytics on profit and loss, exposures, valuation, market risk, credit and working capital to support decision-making and strengthen the control environment.
- Drive consistent finance and risk processes across the integrated Brazil portfolio, finding opportunities to simplify, standardize, automate and improve data quality and controls.
• Lead, coach and develop a team of four finance and risk professionals, setting clear priorities, strengthening cross-commodity capability and ensuring effective partner coverage and timely delivery.
Job Requirements
- Significant experience in finance, commodity risk, market risk, product control or a related field within an energy, commodities or trading environment.
- Strong understanding of physical and financial commodity transactions, valuation, profit and loss, exposures and market risk across one or more energy or bioenergy commodities.
- Ability to connect commercial, finance, accounting, risk, credit, working capital, systems and control considerations when assessing complex transactions and business opportunities.
- Demonstrated people leadership experience, including setting priorities, coaching team members, building capability and managing delivery through others.
- Strong analytical, quantitative and data management skills, with the ability to translate complex models and transactions into clear business insights for non-technical audiences.
- Proven ability to influence, constructively challenge and build effective partnerships with Trading, Origination, senior leaders and cross-functional interested parties.
- Ability to work across commodities, learn new markets quickly and operate effectively in a fast-paced, changing and fast paced environment.
- Strong control perspective, sound judgement, attention to detail and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and reporting/analytics tools; experience with digitalization, automation or data visualization is advantageous.
- Fluent Portuguese and English, with strong written and verbal communication skills
Desirable Criteria
• Experience across power, sugar, ethanol, bioenergy or other Brazil-related commodity markets.
• Experience in market/commodity risk, structuring, deal valuation, accounting or commercial finance.
• Knowledge of market risk methodologies, including value at risk, stress testing, sensitivities and scenario analysis.
• Understanding of renewable generation, bioenergy value chains and associated risk and reward drivers.
• MBA or relevant professional qualification such as CFA, FRM, CPA or equivalent.
• Experience with programming, process automation or market risk and trading systems.
