We're looking for a Broadcast Systems Engineer!

What you'll be doing:

The Broadcast Systems Engineer is a member of the Tech Team responsible for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and integration of broadcast and broadcast IT systems supporting BTPM's radio and broadcast operations and systems design. This position serves as a technical bridge between traditional broadcast engineering and increasingly IP-, network- and software-based broadcast infrastructure. The position independently supports radio automation, Audio over IP (AoIP), streaming, broadcast applications, network-connected equipment and related systems while implementing and maintaining transmission and other broadcast infrastructure. This position can be hybrid - a blend of remote and in-office work. In summary, this individual will:

  • Perform the daily operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of broadcast systems and related IT infrastructure, including radio automation, AoIP systems, streaming platforms, digital audio systems, and network connected broadcast equipment and infrastructure
  • Perform installations, removal, configuration, testing, labeling, documentation, and maintenance of broadcast hardware and software, including workstations, servers, audio interfaces, codecs, processors, and other IP connected broadcast devices
  • Support and maintain internet radio streaming, enhanced HD Radio features, metadata delivery, and other digital broadcast services
  • Apply established broadcast audio practices, operating procedures, signal flow, cabling, patching, routing, inventories, and system and equipment configuration; develops and maintains technical documentation accordingly
  • Support broadcast network infrastructure, including IP addressing, VLANs, switches, routing concepts, network connectivity, and troubleshooting in coordination with IT personnel
  • Administer and support radio broadcast applications as assigned, including ENCO automation, Marketron Radio Traffic, NPR Composer, audio editing applications, streaming systems, and other software platforms
  • Troubleshoot broadcast signal paths and system failures across traditional audio, IP, software, and network environments; identifies root causes and implements corrective action
  • Perform transmitter, studio, microwave, satellite, and remote site maintenance activities as assigned, including preparation, documentation, and routine checks
  • Monitor system performance and reliability and performs preventive maintenance, software and firmware updates, backups, and other routine system maintenance
  • Participate in broadcast technology projects, system upgrades, equipment replacements, and integration of new technologies; maintain current knowledge of evolving broadcast technologies, broadcast IT systems, equipment, software, and applicable industry standards
  • Provide technical support and instruction to staff regarding broadcast systems, automation, and technical workflows
  • Coordinate with IT and Engineering personnel to maintain reliable, secure, and compatible broadcast technology environments.
  • Respond to broadcast outages and other urgent technical issues and participate in after hours or on call support as operationally required
  • Participate in scheduled training and hands on development in broadcast engineering practices, equipment, software, safety procedures, and industry standards
  • Follow established safety procedures and maintains knowledge of FCC requirements and applicable broadcast technical standards

What you'll need:

  • Minimum of Associate's degree (Bachelor's preferred) broadcast engineering, electronics, information technology, media technology, networking or related field; equivalent relevant industry/military experience or certifications considered
  • Minimum four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in broadcast engineering, broadcast technology or related technical operations
  • Demonstrated ability to independently install, configure, maintain and troubleshoot broadcast systems and equipment
  • Working knowledge of IP networking concepts including TCP/IP, addressing, VLANs, switching, routing and network troubleshooting
  • Demonstrated experience with AoIP and network-connected broadcast systems
  • Experience supporting Windows-based computers, servers and software applications in a broadcast environment
  • Working knowledge of radio automation, traffic, streaming and digital content-delivery systems.
  • Familiarity with RF transmission systems, transmitters, translators, STL systems and related broadcast infrastructure
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex problems involving multiple interconnected hardware, software, network and broadcast systems
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, system diagrams and signal-flow documentation
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to independently prioritize urgent technical and operational needs
