Reporting to the Director for Budget Development and Analytics, the Budget and Finance Reporting Developer collaborates with budget and finance partners to develop and maintain a portfolio of reporting tools that support clear, timely, and actionable financial decision-making.
This role works at the intersection of budget, finance, business processes, reporting, and Workday sustainment. The Reporting Developer understands how financial information is used by central finance teams, academic and administrative units, and university leaders, and translates those needs into reporting solutions that are accurate, usable, secure, and aligned with OSU’s evolving budget and finance processes.
The position partners closely with Budget and Finance stakeholders, Budget and Resource Planning, Financial Strategic Services, the Controller’s Office, the Workday sustainment team, and the broader university community to identify reporting gaps, clarify business requirements, improve reporting processes, and deliver tools that help users understand financial activity, budget position, resource commitments, and business process outcomes. The role requires a service-oriented, collaborative approach and the ability to move between technical report development, practical business process problem-solving, user engagement, and training that supports adoption and continuous feedback.
Key Responsibilities:
- Budget and Finance Report Development and Maintenance
- Business Process and Custom Reporting Solutions
- Stakeholder Partnership, Governance, and Compliance
- Support, Troubleshooting, and User Enablement
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in report management, business analytics, finance, business administration, information systems, or a related field.
• At least two years of experience with finance, budget, HR, or administrative systems and report development tools.
• Demonstrated understanding of budget, finance, accounting, or administrative business processes and how operational data supports decision-making.
• Proficiency in analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving tasks.
• Ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate large volumes of data with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to translate business requirements into operational reporting solutions.
• Ability to collaborate with functional stakeholders, technical teams, and sustainment partners to clarify needs, test solutions, and communicate reporting outcomes.
• Ability to explain reporting tools and financial information clearly to users with varying levels of budget, finance, and Workday experience.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize workload, and maintain confidentiality.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. • Hands-on experience with Workday report writing, including Report Writer and Calculated Fields.
• Experience designing, building, testing, and maintaining reports in Workday or similar HR/Finance systems.
• Experience supporting budget, finance, accounting, resource planning, or financial operations reporting in a complex organization.
• Experience working with stakeholders to improve reporting, clarify business process needs, and develop sustainable reporting or dashboard solutions.
• Experience developing user guidance, training materials, engagement sessions, or feedback mechanisms to support adoption of reporting tools.
• Familiarity with advanced reporting tools.
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
• Experience working with highly confidential data in a secure and accurate manner.
