Polsinelli’s Marketing department is seeking an experienced, proactive and driven marketing and business development professional to support the firm’s Intellectual Property department and Life Sciences and Technology industry initiatives. The Specialist will work collaboratively with the Department Marketing team, in addition to department, practice and industry leadership and stakeholders across the firm, on initiatives designed to deepen client relationships, increase market visibility and support firm growth.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop a deep understanding of the departments’ practice groups, attorneys, competition, industry focuses, and client base to inform and advance opportunities to develop and expand client relationships and brand awareness across markets and industries.
  • Support the development and execution of business development initiatives, programs, events, activities, and strategies for the departments, practice groups and industries, both independently and in partnership with the Senior Department Marketing Manager.
  • Support RFP and pitch response strategy and creation of materials, including drafting targeted materials for tailored responses. Monitor and maintain proposal tracking database.
  • Leverage firm data to support targeted business development efforts, including client and prospect segmentation, list development, client targeting, experience identification, and opportunity analysis.
  • Ensure department and practice-specific marketing and external content is compelling, accurate, and kept up to date (website pages, attorney bios, pitch and proposal materials).
  • Coordinate and support the development, execution, and follow-up of internal and client-facing events, with support from the firmwide events team (includes supporting the development of event proposals and budgets, logistics, targeted list development, invitations, client communications, etc.).
  • Coordinate thought leadership activities including eAlerts, newsletters, end-of-year reports, resources pages, monthly department emails, and other communications, including collaborating with the firm’s PR team to advance profile-raising efforts within the market.
  • Facilitate and foster collaborative conversations amongst lawyers, across departments, and within the Marketing department to “connect the dots”, including collaborating with administrative departments to support department and industry priorities and initiatives (pricing, conflicts, recruiting, and department operations, among others).
  • Coordinate and draft content for external survey, directory, award, and ranking submissions (e.g., Chambers, IAM Patent 1000, LMG Life Sciences, and similar publications), as well as collecting matter descriptions, client permissions, and references from attorneys.
  • Track, maintain, analyze, and collaborate with attorneys on practice and industry knowledge and experience management efforts using the firm’s Foundation database, with an emphasis on ensuring experience can be effectively leveraged for pitches, credentials, market positioning, and other business development opportunities.
  • Monitor the use and maintenance of client contacts/client team activity information within the InterAction software system.
  • Assist with the marketing budget, including processing invoices, reconciling expenses, etc.
  • In partnership with the Research & Intelligence team, deliver research, and competitive/market analysis inclusive of client insights, industry and market trends, lateral activity, thought leadership, events, news and experience, league tables, and other relevant sources; synthesize findings into actionable insights.
  • Develop and maintain reports that provide actionable insights into business development and marketing activities, helping the team and practice leadership understand engagement, activity, and results.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 4 years or more of relevant marketing and/or business development work experience in a legal (Am Law firm preferred) or other professional services industry.
  • Experience supporting IP, Life Sciences, Technology, and/or related practices or industries encouraged.
  • Driven towards excellence and a strong sense of professionalism, and an ability to identify, understand, and communicate marketplace and industry trends.
  • Creative, proactive thinker who brings forward new ideas and consistently identifies opportunities to create value and advance new ideas from concept to execution.
  • Excellent project management skills, including the ability to identify and recommend effective solutions, handle multiple priorities at once, and fully own projects from start to completion.
  • Must be responsive to inquiries from clients, diplomatic in answering questions or evaluating proposed ideas, and thorough when offering feedback concerning results or issues that arise in the course of projects.
  • Interest in innovation and utilizing AI applications within professional services.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to work with executives, attorneys, and other stakeholders which may entail handling ambiguous or dynamic requests with a flexible working style.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated client service excellence.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Desired characteristics: Detail-oriented with the ability to understand the bigger picture, organized, analytical, professional, innovative, strategic, process-driven, solution-oriented, accountable, curious, entrepreneurial, collaborative, flexible, and accommodating.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to various offices and event locations periodically.

The budgeted salary range for this position is $90,000 - $120,000.
