💜 ABOUT MATILDA
We’re closing the gap in women’s health.
Matilda is a digital health platform designed to help women recover better from gynaecological surgery.
Gynaecological surgery is not niche (in Australia, 1 in 3 women will undergo a hysterectomy by age 60!!), but the basic standard of perioperative care is decades behind. While this standard of care exists in nearly every other surgical specialty, there is currently no systematic way to deliver this for women undergoing gynaecological surgery. As a result of this gap, most women enter and recover from gynaecological surgery without adequate support, contributing to worse recoveries, poor ongoing management and, in some cases, repeat surgery.
Matilda gives women the care they deserve.
We're the first platform in the world that delivers scalable prehab and rehab for gynaecological surgery. We give every patient a structured care program, from the moment they book their surgery through to recovery. We're a small, mission-driven team, backed by peer-reviewed clinical evidence, strong surgeon testimonials, and patients who LOVE us. We’re already in market with 1,200+ patients and recurring revenue from subscribing gynaecologists. Now, we’re at a pivotal point in our journey.
We’re raising a pre-seed round and we’re hiring our first dedicated commercial hire to supercharge the growth of the business.
⭐ ABOUT THE ROLE
While our end-users are patients undergoing gynaecological surgery, our core customer is the surgeon/gynaecologist who subscribes to Matilda, and refers patients as part of their surgical treatment. You will own the customer (gynaecologist/clinic) relationship from first contact through to long-term retention. That means you're responsible for finding new surgeon subscribers, converting them, onboarding them well, and keeping them engaged over time.
🚀 WHAT YOU'LL DO
Surgeon acquisition
- Build out and work systematically through pipeline of gynaecologists across Australia and New Zealand (and potentially overseas). This involves booking and conducting client meetings to convert leads into signed subscriptions. Travel to conferences, events and client meetings will be part of this.
Onboarding
- Setting surgeons up for success from day one is critical. This involves onboarding calls and meetings with new subscribers and their clinic admin teams.
Retention and ongoing relationship management
- Build ongoing relationships that feel less like a sales check-in and more like a trusted peer keeping them informed. This includes sharing regular updates and problem-solving where needed.
Closing the feedback loop
- Capture what surgeons and patients are telling you, good and bad, and contribute to how we improve the product and the experience for both patients and gynaecologists.
Building and owning the function
- As the first dedicated commercial hire at Matilda, you’ll take ownership of building scalable systems and processes to enable Matilda’s growth. As we grow the BD function, there’s also opportunity for this role to grow into a ‘Head of’ role, which might involve managing a team.
🫶 ABOUT YOU
Non-negotiables:
- Experience in business development, partnerships, account management, and/or customer success. We are open to different levels of experience for this role, but we want to see evidence of converting cold or warm leads into paying customers.
- Passion for the mission. You care about changing the landscape in women’s health, and you are passionate about ensuring all women have access to better support for gynaecological surgery.
- Resilience and comfort with rejection. Cold outreach is a core part of this job, and most calls won't convert immediately. You need to be able to take that and keep going.
- Warmth and emotional intelligence. You can establish trust and build rapport quickly and effectively, even from a cold start. And you can maintain it over a long, ongoing relationship.
- Problem-solving. When something isn’t working for a customer, you jump in to fix it.
- Initiative, proactivity, and ownership. You will be building out the commercial function, which requires the initiative to build and improve on existing systems.
- Autonomy and self-management in a remote-first role. We’re a remote-first company, which means we have a high degree of trust in our team. While you’ll report to the CEO and have support from the broader team, we’re looking for someone who can manage their own workload without over-the-shoulder handholding.
- Willingness to travel for conferences and in-person meetings.
- Work authorisation. Must be legally authorised to work in Australia without requiring employer visa sponsorship.
Nice-to-haves:
- A background in or strong familiarity with women’s health is an advantage. You don't need to be a clinician, but you need to be able to hold a conversation with a gynaecologist. That means understanding the clinical context, speaking the language, and engaging with the evidence.
📋 THE HIRING PROCESS
- Written application: Fill in a digital form with a couple of questions, attach a quick intro video, plus share your LinkedIn/resume.
- Initial interview: This will be a video call where we’ll both have the opportunity to see if this is the right fit.
- Mock sales meeting: This ‘work sample’ isn’t a take-home homework task. Instead, this stage is another video call where we’ll put you in the hot seat as if you were selling to a real potential customer. The purpose of this is to show us how you might fit into the role, as well as give you a feel for what it’s like.
- Final interview: Have a deeper conversation with the leadership team and ask any remaining questions you might have.
- Reference checks: As we get to the final stages of this process, we’ll ask to speak to some of your professional references.
- Offer and onboarding! If it’s a good fit on both sides, we’ll make an offer, talk through starting logistics, and get to onboarding!
😍 WHY WORK AT MATILDA
Your work here will make a real difference. Every surgeon you sign means more women get the support they deserve before and after gynaecological surgery.
We trust our team, and it shows in how we work. We’re remote-first, so outside of client meetings and sales travel, you choose where and how you work. This isn’t a rigid 9 to 5 with someone monitoring the clock. We care about what you deliver, not the hours you log, and how you get there is up to you.
As our first commercial hire, you'll build the sales function and grow with it. As the function grows, so can your role, with the opportunity for meaningful career progression within Matilda.
We work hard, and we reward it. Commission has no threshold and no cap, so whatever you close directly translates into reward-for-effort. There's also equity for the right person, so when Matilda does well, you do too.
We're a small, close team that backs each other, celebrates wins in and out of work, and makes time to have fun together.
Matilda is female-founded and female-led, and we welcome applicants from all backgrounds.
