Business Development Manager | MICE and Groups

Our 241 room, Premium Hotel is located next to the beautiful Hyde Park and on the doorstep of some of Sydney's most vibrant restaurants, bars, shopping and entertainment venues. We welcome a diverse range of guests every day with a mix of both corporate & leisure as well as hosting and taking part in an array of events, including the incredible (and colourful) Mardi Gras.
Reporting to the Director of Sales, you will play a key role in driving new business and revenue growth across the MICE markets as fundamental focus.
This is a highly proactive sales role for someone who enjoys being out in the market, building new relationships and turning opportunities into business. You will be expected to actively identify and pursue new clients, organisations, agencies, companies and MICE opportunities, while developing strong relationships that generate repeat and long-term business for the Hotel.
Working closely with the Director of Sales, another Business Development Manager and the Conference & Event Sales team, you will:
- Proactively prospect for new clients and business opportunities, with a particular focus on MICE, conferences, meetings, incentives and events.
- Identify new sources of revenue, untapped markets and potential MICE opportunities for the Hotel.
- Build and maintain a strong sales pipeline through cold calling, client visits, networking, industry events, appointments, presentations and targeted sales activity.
- Develop relationships with corporate clients, event agencies, PCOs, DMCs, associations and other key MICE decision-makers.
- Convert new leads and opportunities into confirmed business and maximise revenue potential.
- Work closely with the Conference & Event Sales team to identify and convert opportunities from initial enquiry through to confirmed business.
- Develop low-producing and dormant accounts through proactive sales activity, with the objective of converting them into higher-value and long-term accounts.
- Manage and grow key corporate, inbound and MICE accounts while continually looking for opportunities to expand the Hotel's share of their business.
- Research market trends, competitor activity and emerging business opportunities to identify where Pullman Sydney Hyde Park can win new business.
- Develop and execute targeted sales strategies and initiatives to achieve hotel revenue targets.
- Maintain accurate sales activity, account information and pipeline opportunities within the relevant systems.
- Represent Pullman Sydney Hyde Park at industry events, trade shows, networking functions and client activities to increase the Hotel's visibility and generate new leads.
Above all, you will be a business hunter: someone who is constantly asking “Where is our next opportunity?” and actively turning that opportunity into revenue. Build relationships with new clients is your daily bread and with no time for office admin as you are constantly creating connections with future partners!
To be successful in this role, you will have demonstrated sales experience within hospitality environment, with strong experience and/or a particular passion for MICE and business development with tangible results.
You will be a proactive and commercially driven salesperson with the ability to:
- Source, qualify and convert new business opportunities.
- Build a strong MICE pipeline through consistent prospecting and business development activity.
- Identify opportunities that others may not immediately see and turn them into tangible revenue.
- Develop relationships with new clients and decision-makers from the first approach through to conversion.
- Grow existing and low-producing accounts through targeted sales activity.
- Confidently conduct client meetings, sales calls, presentations and site inspections.
- Work collaboratively with Conference & Event Sales, Revenue and Operations teams to maximise opportunities.
- Stay informed about market trends, competitor activity and changes within the MICE and corporate landscape.
You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong commercial awareness and a genuine drive to win new business. You are ambitious, energetic and motivated by achieving results, but equally passionate about building relationships and creating memorable experiences for our clients and guests. You are eager to achieve results and find business for other departments to work through!
