Group 1001is a consumer-centric, technology-driven family of insurance companies on a mission to deliver outstanding value and operational performance by combining financial strength and stability with deep insurance expertise and a can-do culture. Group1001’s culture emphasizes the importance of collaboration, communication, core business focus, risk management, and striving for outcomes. This goal extends to how we hire and onboard our most valuable assets – our employees.
Why This Role Matters:
The Process Improvement Consultant – Annuity Operations is the process and performance partner to Inforce and Claims leadership. You'll find where annuity servicing and claims processes break down, figure out why, and work with operations teams to redesign how the work gets done. Your work will improve cycle time, transaction accuracy, the beneficiary and contract owner experience, and how consistently we meet regulatory requirements.
You'll work closely with Operations, Product, Technology, Legal, Tax, Compliance, Audit and Accounting Control. You'll make sure process changes match contract provisions, procedural standards and internal control expectations. You'll also prepare operations for new products, regulatory changes and strategic initiatives.
What We're Looking For:
Process Improvement & Root Cause
- Find process breakdowns across annuity inforce and claims operations, including surrenders, withdrawals, systematic and RMD distributions, 1035 exchanges, ownership and beneficiary changes, annuitizations and death claims.
- Run root-cause analysis on variances, exceptions, rework and NIGO drivers. Recommend corrective actions with measurable outcomes.
- Map operational processes end to end using tools such as process maps, SIPOC and value-stream mapping. Measure bottlenecks, handoffs and waste.
- Build business cases for improvement initiatives, tied to cycle time, cost, quality, risk reduction and customer experience.
- Design, pilot and roll out process changes with operations leads. Measure the before-and-after impact and update the written procedures.
- Work with Data, IT and Technology partners to fix operational data quality at the source and reduce manual workarounds and reporting.
- Act as a trusted advisor to operations leadership. Turn their strategic questions into structured analysis and clear, actionable recommendations.
Operational Governance & Business Readiness
- Support volume forecasting and capacity planning. Maintain transaction rates, workload multipliers, seasonality factors and productivity standards that leadership uses for staffing decisions.
- Help maintain the department's operational FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and support planning for known peak events such as RMD season, tax season and product or system conversions.
- Prepare operations for change. Translate product, regulatory, legal, tax and technology requirements into updated processes and procedures. Work with Operations Trainers on training needs.
- Own the operational performance reporting cadence: SLA attainment, first request resolution, quality and accuracy, productivity, workload multiplier, and forecast vs. actual. This reporting goes to operations leadership and enterprise stakeholders.
- Serve as the operations liaison to Compliance, Legal, Tax, Treasury, Audit and Risk. Provide operational context, evidence of execution for audit and regulatory inquiries, and coordinated operations responses.
What We’re Looking For:
- 3-5 years’ experience analyzing operational process and performance metrics in the financial services industry is required; annuities is preferred
- Demonstrated experience contributing to process improvement initiatives with quantified outcomes
- Proven track record in root-cause analysis ideally with Lean Six Sigma concepts
- Prior experience using reporting tools, using Microsoft Excel and Power BI is preferred
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Business, Finance or Insurance or equivalent experience
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills is required
- Ability to influence and drive change across functional lines of businesses
