At Lancashire County Council, we're passionate about helping children and families achieve the best possible start in life. We're looking for an organised, customer-focused and enthusiastic Business Support Officer to join our friendly and supportive team within Education & Children's Services Business Support.

If you enjoy working in a busy environment, providing excellent customer service and being part of a team that makes a real difference, we'd love to hear from you. The role offers a varied workload, opportunities to develop your skills and the chance to support services that have a positive impact on communities across Lancashire. Based on the Early Years Centre Team, the successful candidate will provide essential administrative support to colleagues, customers and partners across the service.

*Please note that this role is 29.6 hours per week, which is spread across 4 days, with the non-working day being Wednesdays.

About the Role

As a Business Support Officer, you'll play a key role in supporting the day-to-day operation of the Early Years Team within School Improvement. Working closely with operational staff, managers, customers and partner organisations, you'll help ensure services run smoothly and efficiently in a fast-paced and often sensitive environment.

No two days are the same. You could be welcoming visitors to the centre, responding to enquiries, supporting training events, maintaining records, processing orders and invoices, or helping colleagues access the information they need to deliver high-quality services.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Providing administrative and business support to the Early Years Team.
  • Delivering a professional reception and customer service function.
  • Responding to telephone, email, postal and face-to-face enquiries.
  • Maintaining and updating electronic records and information systems.
  • Supporting the organisation of training courses, meetings and events, including bookings, resources and administration.
  • Processing orders, invoices and financial information accurately and efficiently.
  • Assisting with data collection, reporting and management information.
  • Liaising with internal teams, schools, early years settings and other external stakeholders.

What We're Looking For

We're seeking someone who:

  • Has excellent organisational and administrative skills.
  • Enjoys delivering great customer service and building positive working relationships.
  • Is confident using Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Can manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a busy environment.
  • Has strong communication skills and pays close attention to detail.
  • Can work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Understands the importance of confidentiality and handling sensitive information appropriately.

Previous business support or administrative experience and experience of working with customers either face-to-face or by telephone would be beneficial.

Why Join Us?

You'll be supported every step of the way by your line manager and colleagues within a friendly and collaborative team. We offer a range of staff networks and wellbeing support groups, ensuring you feel connected, valued and empowered to succeed.

In return, you'll enjoy:

  • Competitive salary
  • Generous annual leave entitlement starting at 26 days plus bank holidays
  • Flexible working opportunities
  • Health and wellbeing support
  • Family-friendly policies
  • Financial and travel benefits
  • Access to learning and development opportunities
  • A supportive and inclusive working environment where your contribution is recognised
