Internal Operations & Systems Consultant

Role Overview
A growing renewable energy organisation is seeking an experienced Internal Operations & Systems Consultant to lead a 12-month business-wide systems modernisation and operational improvement programme.
This is a highly hands-on transformation role responsible for improving how information, processes and technology are managed across the organisation. The successful consultant will consolidate and restructure the existing SharePoint / Microsoft 365 environment, establish standardised operational systems and processes across multiple departments, and introduce practical AI-enabled workflows using platforms such as Claude, Microsoft Copilot and ChatGPT Enterprise.
This is not a strategy-only consulting assignment. The successful individual will be expected to assess, design, build, implement, train and embed the new environment, leaving the organisation with sustainable systems, documentation and ways of working at the end of the 12-month engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Microsoft 365 & SharePoint Transformation
- Audit the existing SharePoint, Microsoft 365, file storage and document management environment.
- Identify duplication, fragmented information, access issues and inefficient document-management practices.
- Design and implement a consolidated SharePoint system of record.
- Establish appropriate information architecture, permissions, document libraries, naming conventions, metadata and governance.
- Develop sustainable document-management standards and structures.
Business Systems & Process Standardisation
- Assess current operational processes across Business Development, Project Development, Technical, Operations and Finance.
- Identify inefficient or inconsistent processes and opportunities for automation.
- Design and implement standard operating procedures, templates and workflows.
- Standardise project tracking, reporting, document management and information-sharing practices.
- Develop scalable systems capable of supporting continued organisational growth.
AI & Workflow Implementation
- Identify practical AI use cases across individual departments.
- Introduce enterprise AI platforms such as Claude, Microsoft Copilot and/or ChatGPT Enterprise into appropriate business workflows.
- Develop repeatable AI-enabled processes rather than relying on individual or ad-hoc AI usage.
- Establish appropriate governance and responsible-use practices.
- Train employees on practical applications relevant to their roles.
Change Management & Adoption
- Lead employees through the transition to new systems and ways of working.
- Deliver user training, workshops and practical support.
- Develop straightforward user guides, SOPs, playbooks and process documentation.
- Track adoption and identify areas requiring additional intervention.
- Ensure systems and processes remain sustainable after completion of the consultancy.
Programme & Stakeholder Management
- Work directly with Executive Directors to establish priorities and implementation sequencing.
- Develop and manage the 12-month transformation roadmap.
- Provide regular progress, adoption, risk and implementation reporting.
- Identify and coordinate third-party vendors or implementation partners where required.
- Take ownership of delivery with limited day-to-day supervision.
Experience & Qualifications
The successful individual will ideally demonstrate:
- Proven delivery of SharePoint / Microsoft 365 implementation, migration, consolidation or transformation programmes.
- Strong understanding of document management, information architecture and systems governance.
- Experience designing and implementing business processes, SOPs and operational workflows.
- Practical experience implementing AI tools within organisational workflows, including platforms such as Claude, Microsoft Copilot or ChatGPT Enterprise.
- Experience delivering digital transformation, operational excellence or business systems improvement programmes.
- Strong change-management and user-adoption experience.
- Experience working across multiple departments and business functions.
- Strong Executive stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to operate independently within a project or consulting environment.
- Renewable energy, infrastructure, engineering or another project-driven environment would be advantageous.
