Buyer – Asia Supply Chain
Location: Taiwan | Remote/Home-Based
Department: Operations
Reports To: Procurement Manager
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Buyer based in Taiwan to manage sourcing and supplier relationships across Taiwan and other Asian markets.
This role is responsible for purchasing electronic components and materials, negotiating competitive commercial terms, managing supplier performance, reducing total material cost, and helping protect the business from supply disruptions. You will work closely with suppliers and our U.S.-based Operations, Planning, Engineering, and Quality teams.
This is an opportunity for someone who knows the Asian electronics supply market and enjoys combining hands-on purchasing with supplier development, negotiation, cost improvement, and problem-solving.
What You’ll Do
- Source and purchase electronic components, materials, and related services.
- Identify, evaluate, and develop suppliers in Taiwan and other Asian markets.
- Prepare RFQs, analyze quotations, and recommend sourcing decisions.
- Negotiate pricing, lead times, minimum order quantities, payment terms, and other commercial conditions.
- Manage purchase orders and supplier commitments using ERP/MRP systems.
- Monitor shortages, past-due orders, long lead-time components, and supplier constraints.
- Develop solutions for EOL components, allocations, sole-source risks, and other supply disruptions.
- Identify opportunities to reduce purchase price and total landed cost.
- Track and improve supplier delivery, quality, responsiveness, and commercial performance.
- Conduct supplier meetings and business reviews and visit supplier locations as needed.
- Support alternate-source development, supplier transitions, and corrective actions.
- Coordinate shipment timing, consolidation, packaging, and delivery with suppliers and logistics partners.
- Support new product introductions, engineering changes, and component transitions.
- Maintain accurate supplier, pricing, lead-time, and purchasing information in company systems.
What We’re Looking For
- 3+ years of experience in purchasing, sourcing, procurement, materials, or supply chain preferred.
- Experience purchasing electronic components or materials for electronics, industrial computing, technology manufacturing, or contract manufacturing strongly preferred.
- Experience working with suppliers in Taiwan, China, or other Asian markets preferred.
- Strong negotiation, commercial, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience managing component shortages, long lead times, supplier performance, and supply risk.
- Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems; NetSuite experience preferred.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills and comfort working with purchasing and supplier data.
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, Operations, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
- Familiarity with data-analysis and AI productivity tools is a plus.
Language Requirements
- Professional English proficiency required for communication with U.S.-based and global team members.
- Professional Mandarin Chinese proficiency required for supplier communication and negotiation in Taiwan.
- Additional Asian-language skills are a plus.
How This Role Works
This is a Taiwan-based remote position designed to keep our purchasing organization close to key Asian suppliers.
The Buyer focuses on supplier sourcing, purchasing, negotiation, cost, supplier performance, and supply continuity. Production scheduling remains with the Planning organization, allowing this role to concentrate on developing a competitive and reliable Asian supply base.
Regular supplier visits within Taiwan may be required, along with occasional regional travel. Because the role supports global operations, occasional meetings with U.S.-based colleagues may occur outside normal Taiwan business hours.
What Success Looks Like
Success in this role will be measured through areas such as:
- Supplier on-time delivery and quality
- Material availability and shortage reduction
- Purchase price and total-cost improvement
- Supplier responsiveness
- Lead-time improvement
- EOL and supply-risk mitigation
- Reduction of unnecessary expedited freight
- Purchasing and supplier-data accuracy
- Effective sourcing and supplier-development improvements
