The Generation Engineering Delivery department in ESB Engineering and Major Projects leads engineering support for ESB’s generation business. The Generation Cables department is responsible for the design and project management of high voltage underground grid cable connections for large scale thermal and renewable generation projects including offshore wind projects.
The Package Manager will lead the end to end delivery of the high voltage export cable system for major ESB and JV offshore wind farms in Ireland and the UK, covering both onshore and offshore scopes. This role is accountable for planning, procurement, engineering coordination, manufacturing oversight, installation management, and successful handover of the complete cable package. The role will act as the primary interface between internal project teams, external suppliers, marine contractors, onshore civil contractors, certification bodies, and grid stakeholders to ensure the export cable system is delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities

Lead the full lifecycle delivery of the cable packages, from concept and design through installation, commissioning, and handover.
Develop and manage package plans, schedules, budgets, risks, and interfaces to ensure successful project execution for both onshore and offshore workstreams.

Oversee the design development of offshore and onshore cable systems, landfall works, grid connection interfaces, ensuring compliance with project technical, environmental and marine licensing requirements, industry standards (IEC, EN, DNV) and certification obligations.

Manage the procurement, contracting, and performance of cable suppliers and installation contractors throughout manufacturing, testing, logistics, and installation.

Provide oversight of cable manufacturing, quality assurance, testing (FAT/SAT), certification, and compliance activities to ensure the highest delivery standards.

Manage and direct onshore and offshore installation and civil works construction activities, ensuring safe execution in accordance with CDM and local regulations.

Act as the key stakeholder interface for onshore and offshore export cable works, providing governance, performance reporting, risk management, and coordination across project teams, contractors, regulators, and grid connection partners.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
-
Proven experience delivering large‑scale offshore wind or subsea cable projects.

Strong understanding of HV export cable design, manufacturing, and installation.

Experience managing complex EPC or multi‑contract delivery structures.

Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams across onshore and offshore environments.

Strong commercial acumen and contract management capability.
-
Willingness to travel to supplier facilities, offshore vessels, and onshore construction sites.
Desirable
Chartered Engineer Status
Qualifications
Essential
Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
Desirable
Active involvement in international engineering organisations such as CIGRE, IEEE and IET (e.g. participation in Working Groups)
Location
The position will be based in ESB Engineering & Major Projects’ offices at The Sidings, Grand Canal Quay, Dublin 2, D02 E7K8.
Smart Working at ESB is designed to make ‘in-person’ time together as purposeful as possible while also enabling the effective use of digital tools and hybrid arrangements to preserve our commitment to flexibility. The successful candidate may work flexibly within the jurisdiction where they have been employed, with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration at least two days per week. All Smart Working arrangements are subject to regular review based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the business.
