Call Center Representative | Communication Assistant (TX)

1. About Our Client:

The organization is a nonprofit dedicated to creating opportunities and support for Deaf and hard of hearing individuals. For over forty years, it has provided programs and services that educate the Deaf community and the public, facilitate communication via technological solutions, and assist businesses in hiring Deaf employees. The organization operates Telephone Relay Service (TRS) Call Centers that enable communication between Deaf or hard of hearing and hearing individuals.

2. About the Opportunity:

The Call Center Representative | Communication Assistant role supports communication access by facilitating telephone relay calls between Deaf, hard of hearing, or speech-impaired consumers and hearing individuals. This position ensures high-quality service by accurately relaying conversations, maintaining confidentiality, and supporting the communication needs of users relying on TRS.

3. Responsibilities:

• Accept and place relay calls for consumers
• Deliver the highest quality service to all consumers
• Hear and listen to spoken words to voice or transcribe to text
• Read aloud typed messages and type voiced messages and background sounds
• Translate written ASL messages to conversational English
• Convey caller emotions through voice inflection
• Relay call content accurately without intervening
• Maintain TRS standards for accuracy and speed
• Report technical issues to staff
• Maintain strict consumer confidentiality

4. Requirements:

• 18 years or older
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Pass an essential skills assessment
• Type at least 60 words per minute with 95% accuracy
• Availability for varied schedules including weekdays, weekends, overnights, and holidays
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Suitable home office setup with high-speed wired internet and private workspace
• Residency in Texas

5. Pay Range and Compensation Package:

• Starting wage of $14.00 per hour
• Eligibility for salary increases twice a year
• Shift differentials for overnight shifts and specialized calls
