JOB SUMMARY/ESSESNTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Review and abstract data from electronic health records (EHR) and paper records to meet core measures, regulatory, and accreditation requirements into cancer registry. This includes information on diagnoses, treatments, procedures, and outcomes Maintain up-to-date knowledge of TJC, CMS, and other quality program guidelines and ensure abstraction criteria align with current specifications Adheres to specific clinical data abstraction guidelines and standards, such as those set by the American Heart Association Enters the abstracted data into a database, often using specialized software. This includes maintaining and updating the data as necessary Participates in quality assurance processes to ensure data integrity. This involves regular audits of the data or the abstraction process Remains informed about developments in cardiac care and data management to ensure ongoing competency in the role Requirements Education: Bachelor’s degree in nursing, Health Information Management, or related healthcare field preferred Associates degree with relevant experience considered Experience: minimum 2–4 years of experience in a hospital or healthcare setting, preferably in quality, case management, HIM, or clinical documentation ODS Certification Quality Management or QC experience preferred Prior experience with core measures abstraction strongly preferred. PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Sitting, talking, hearing and near vision are required over 90% of the time. Feeling is required over 90% of the time and reaching is required about 50% of the time. The ability to travel to field sites may be required up to 15% of the time. WORKING CONDITIONS WHILE PERFORMING ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Over 90% of the time is spent indoors, with protection from weather conditions.
