The Certification Lead plays a key role in collaborating with notified bodies, engineering and marketing departments in order to issue certificates for finished products and components and maintain their validity. He acts as an expert within the Appleton Group regarding ATEX & IECEx standards.

In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

• Lead and coordinate product certification activities, with primary focus on new and updated product approvals in support of NPD Engineering.

• Plan, prepare, submit, and maintain certification files for ATEX, IECEx, INMETRO and other applicable approvals, ensuring agreed milestones, technical scope, cost and delivery targets are achieved.

• Act as the main technical interface with notified bodies, certification agencies and external laboratories; define test and certification programs, review quotations, negotiate scope, cost and lead time, and initiate orders in line with internal approval processes.

• Work closely with NPD Engineering to translate regulatory requirements into practical product-design requirements, support technical decisions, and resolve certification-related issues throughout development.

• Maintain and update existing certificates and certification documentation, including the assessment and implementation of product changes, deviations and regulatory updates.

• Support Quality in ATEX-related audits and in the technical review, approval or rejection of certification-related deviations.

• Support the maintenance of laboratory qualification, including participation in notified-body audits and review of test programs issued by the laboratory.

• Provide timely technical answers on certification questions, deviations and product compliance to Application Engineering and Quotation teams.

• Support customers and authorized sub-assemblers with ATEX/IECEx certification guidance and training, as required.

• Deliver ATEX awareness and technical training internally and provide ATEX/IECEx expertise to other Emerson sites and functions.

For This Role, You Will Need:

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or similar.

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical or industrial engineering, preferably in the field of oil and gas within the certification department or professional experience with notified bodies.

• Good knowledge of Emerson products and services and/or the competition.

• Direct experience working with Notified Bodies and supporting product certification projects (ATEX, IECEx) is a significant advantage.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a global, multicultural team.

• Effective written and oral communication, able to build relationships with employees and customers at all levels.

• Ability to manage multiple projects independently and prioritize effectively.

• Fluent English language skills—spoken and written.

Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:

• Knowledge of European and international electrical standards (e.g., EN, IEC).

• Strong emphasis on attention to detail, a problem-solving approach, and a willingness to continuously learn.

• Familiarity with Project management skills.

• Knowledge of negotiation techniques.
