The successful candidate will guide the development of custom applications, platform configurations, Service Portal experiences, reporting solutions, automation, and data-management processes. The role requires a technically strong leader who can establish development standards, support engineering teams, resolve complex platform issues, and ensure ServiceNow solutions align with organizational objectives.

This position is well suited for an experienced remote engineering professional with a background in ServiceNow development, IT service management, Agile delivery, and cross-functional technical leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Establish the technical vision, architecture, and engineering standards for the ServiceNow platform.

  • Provide technical direction for platform components such as Business Rules, Client Scripts, ACLs, UI Policies, workflows, integrations, and data structures.
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of custom ServiceNow applications, Service Portal pages, widgets, reports, and dashboards.
  • Guide engineering teams in translating business requirements, user stories, and operational needs into scalable technical solutions.
  • Review proposed designs, configurations, and code to promote maintainability, security, performance, and platform alignment.
  • Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for complex application, data, integration, and performance issues.
  • Establish development, testing, release-management, documentation, and change-control practices.
  • Coordinate platform upgrades, releases, enhancements, and production deployments across technical and business teams.
  • Promote the use of automated testing and quality-assurance practices, including ServiceNow Automated Test Framework capabilities.
  • Monitor platform health, data quality, security controls, compliance requirements, and overall operational performance.
  • Manage technical priorities, delivery schedules, risks, dependencies, and resource requirements across multiple initiatives.
  • Mentor, coach, and provide technical guidance to developers, administrators, engineers, and support personnel.
  • Facilitate collaboration among engineering, product, security, infrastructure, operations, and business stakeholders.
  • Participate in Agile planning, Scrum ceremonies, backlog refinement, technical reviews, and delivery retrospectives.
  • Define and communicate engineering decisions, technical roadmaps, standards, and modernization opportunities.
  • Support end users and internal teams by improving platform usability, documentation, processes, and knowledge resources.
  • Promote ITIL-aligned practices and a customer-focused approach to platform engineering and service delivery.
  • Encourage continuous improvement, creative problem-solving, and consistent execution within a distributed or remote organization.
