About the Position

Arcadia is seeking an accomplished and visionary Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to spearhead our Financial Operations and Strategic Financial Planning departments and advance the growth and sustainability of our diverse programs and initiatives. As the CFO, you will be responsible for designing and executing financial strategies that support Arcadia’s mission to provide education and promote art, foster a culture of accountability and excellence, and align financial operations with the strategic objectives of Arcadia. You will have oversight of financial planning, risk management, compliance with Swiss financial regulations, and the development of innovative funding strategies, with direct line management responsibility for two senior financial managers, each overseeing a specialised sub-department. You will lead strategic planning meetings with these managers to establish high-quality, effective financial policies, provide mentorship, and enhance financial reporting and forecasting frameworks to ensure they meet the highest standards of professionalism and impact. This role will also involve collaborating closely with the CEO and executive team members to integrate financial strategies with organisational goals. Additionally, you will prepare detailed financial reports for the executive team and board members, ensuring transparency and clear communication of all financial activities and solutions. Your expertise in financial management, particularly within a non-profit setting, will be critical in navigating the complexities of funding and regulatory compliance, driving Arcadia towards sustainable growth, and expanding our impact in education and art.

Key Responsibilities

As the CFO, you will play a critical role in driving Arcadia's financial sustainability and advancing its mission to provide education and promote art through innovative financial leadership. Your responsibilities will include:

Strategic Financial Leadership:

• Develop, implement, and oversee financial strategies aligned with Arcadia’s vision, mission, and strategic objectives. Provide forward-thinking financial counsel to the executive board and Board of Directors, ensuring the organization remains proactive in addressing financial challenges and opportunities in a dynamic funding landscape.

Financial Compliance and Governance:

• Ensure full compliance with Swiss financial regulations, international accounting standards, and best practices in non-profit financial management. Establish and maintain robust financial frameworks, policies, and controls to uphold Arcadia’s ethical standards and ensure financial transparency and accountability across all operations.

Stakeholder Engagement and Advisory:

• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including donors, government agencies, and grant providers, to secure funding and manage financial resources effectively. Serve as a trusted advisor to the executive board on financial matters, providing insights into funding trends, financial risks, and growth opportunities for Arcadia.

Skills and Competencies Required:

Financial and Strategic Expertise:

• Extensive experience in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and risk management, ideally within a non-profit or mission-driven organization. Demonstrated ability to align financial strategies with organisational goals and deliver sustainable growth.

Analytical and Problem-Solving::

• Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data, identify risks, and develop innovative solutions. A results-oriented mindset with a focus on achieving long-term impact.

Communication and Stakeholder Engagement:

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey financial information clearly to diverse stakeholders, including the executive board, donors, and regulatory bodies. Experience building partnerships and fostering trust with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

• A master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited institution. Professional certifications such as CPA, CFA, or ACCA are highly desirable.
• A minimum of 10 years of progressive financial management experience, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role overseeing financial operations, budgeting, and forecasting. Experience in the nonprofit sector, particularly with international or mission-driven organizations, is highly desirable.
• Proven experience in leading and managing financial teams, including supervising senior financial officers or directors.
• Strong advisory experience as a trusted financial consultant and primary point of contact on financial matters for executive boards and boards of directors. Ability to provide clear, actionable guidance on complex financial issues and strategies.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Swiss financial regulations, international accounting standards and compliance frameworks for nonprofit organizations. Familiarity with grant management and reporting requirements is a strong asset.
• Fluency in English (CEFR C1) is required. Proficiency in French or German is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships with government bodies, grant providers, and regulatory authorities, particularly in Switzerland. Experience with financial correspondence and reporting is highly appreciated.
• Comfortable with part-time commitment, contributing 8–10 hours (20%) per week, with availability for remote work, selecting your own working hours, and the flexibility to visit the Geneva office once a month for administrative tasks (highly appreciated but not mandatory).
