We shape, build, and connect the North.

Position: Chief Financial Officer

Status: Permanent, full time

Salary Range: From $250,000 + incentive pay

Location: Whitehorse, Yukon or remote with monthly onsite presence

The opportunity

Northern Vision Development is growing. For more than two decades, NVD has built and operated hotels, restaurants, commercial and residential real estate, seniors living, and development assets across Yukon and British Columbia.

As Chief Financial Officer, you will shape how NVD grows, allocates capital, manages risk, and creates long-term value for its unitholders and communities. The decisions ahead about where to invest, how to finance it and how much risk to carry will shape the company for decades to come. This is an opportunity to bring Drive to an ambitious growth agenda, Rigour to complex financial decisions, and Kindness to the relationships and leadership required to move the organization forward.

What does your success look like?

  • The CEO and Board rely on your advice for major investment, development and financing decisions, and those decisions rest on tested assumptions and clear expectations for return and risk.
  • NVD can see ahead on liquidity, capital capacity, and covenant headroom, and grow without putting its financial resilience or lender relationships at risk.
  • The Board, Audit Committee, unitholders, and lenders trust NVD’s financial reporting because it is timely, dependable, and useful for decisions.
  • Operating leaders use forecasts and performance information to make decisions and are accountable for their results.
  • NVD has a clear, well-reasoned decision on the direction of its financial systems.
  • Partnership and ownership structures with First Nation partners are financially sound and clearly understood by all parties.
  • The finance function has leadership, structure, and capability the business needs, and its people grow under your leadership.

What you bring to the role

  • CFO-level leadership of a full finance function in a multi-entity, asset-intensive organization, including consolidated reporting.
  • Leadership of capital planning and forecasting, with direct personal accountability for a syndicated or multi-lender credit facility, including covenant management and lender reporting.
  • Experience advising a CEO, Board and Audit Committee on major decisions, and reporting to investors, unitholders, and owners.
  • Oversight of corporate and partnership tax planning with external advisors, including the tax implications of transactions and financing.
  • A hands-on approach - you are comfortable doing the work yourself in a lean team as well as leading it.

Assets:

  • Experience in real estate development, hospitality, and/or multi-property operations.
  • Experiencing leading the improvement or implementation of finance and accounting systems.
  • Experience reporting under ASPE (the private-company accounting standards).

Why build your career with us?

This is an opportunity to influence the future of a growing, majority First Nations-owned company with meaningful assets, strong community partnerships, and ambitious plans for the North. We offer:

  • 4-weeks’ vacation pay, increasing at defined service milestones
  • 1-week managers’ leave
  • Health coverage including extended health, dental, vision, life, and short-term disability
  • 4% RRSP matching to support your long-term financial security
  • Professional development
  • Paid professional fees
  • Short term and long-term incentive pay programs
  • Preferred staff and friends and family rates across our hotel portfolio
  • Employee assistance and wellness program for you and your dependents
  • Relocation assistance

Job requirements: CPA or CFA designation in good standing
