Chief Technology Officer | SaaS

For an established SaaS organisation in the Rotterdam area, we are looking for a Chief Technology Officer to lead the next phase of its technology organisation.

The company employs approximately 40 people, including around 20 engineers. The strategic direction is clear. The next challenge is to translate that direction into consistent execution, measurable results and sustainable scale.

As CTO, you will be part of the Management Team and take responsibility for further professionalising the engineering organisation, strengthening the connection between Product and Technology and creating the structure needed for continued growth.

The role

You will lead an experienced engineering organisation and help create an environment in which teams can deliver with greater clarity, ownership and predictability.

Your focus will include:

• Translating the company strategy into a clear technology roadmap and execution model
• Strengthening alignment between Product and Engineering
• Improving delivery predictability, prioritisation and ownership
• Further professionalising engineering processes and ways of working
• Building a scalable technology organisation for the next phase of growth
• Coaching and developing engineering leadership and teams
• Ensuring technology investments translate into measurable business outcomes
• Reviewing team structure, capabilities and future capacity requirements
• Making pragmatic decisions around build vs buy
• Exploring how distributed or international engineering capacity can support future growth
• Maintaining a strong balance between speed, quality, scalability and technical sustainability

The development organisation is currently based in the Netherlands. As the company grows, different models for scaling engineering capacity, including distributed and nearshore teams, are being explored.

What we are looking for

You are an experienced technology leader who combines technical credibility with strong organisational and business judgement.

Ideally, you bring:

• 10+ years of experience within software and technology
• Previous experience as CTO, VP Engineering, Head of Engineering or in a comparable senior technology leadership role
• Experience within a SaaS or software product environment
• Experience leading and developing engineering organisations of approximately 15–30+ people
• A track record of professionalising technology organisations during a growth phase
• Strong understanding of software architecture, cloud environments and modern engineering practices
• Experience bringing Product and Engineering closer together
• A pragmatic perspective on engineering processes, team design and delivery
• The ability to challenge technical decisions without needing to be a day-to-day developer
• Strong communication skills and experience operating as part of a Management Team

Experience with distributed development teams, international engineering organisations or external development partners is a strong advantage.
