China OSINT Data Analyst

The Role: As a Medior China OSINT Data Analyst, you will work at the core of Datenna's product operations: conducting rigorous data-driven analysis to support data acquisition and quality assurance, and helping translate complex Chinese-language source material into structured, platform-ready intelligence. This is a position for someone with solid China expertise and research experience who is ready to take greater ownership in a product-focused role.

Your mission at Datenna:

Analysis and data intelligence

• Apply deep China domain knowledge to develop products that identify, map, and classify entities across China's corporate, academic, and technology landscape, with a focus on military-civil fusion, dual-use technologies, state ownership, and technology transfer.

• Use pattern-recognition skills to connect the dots between corporate, state, and military actors to generate structured intelligence that feeds directly into Datenna's platform.

• Contribute analytical judgements to entity risk labelling, ownership mapping, and procurement tracking, prioritising platform-ready outputs over long-form research deliverables.

Data Collection, quality and lifecycle management

• Own discrete data collection workstreams independently: identifying, evaluating, and extracting structured information from Chinese-language sources including corporate registries, procurement portals, patent databases, academic repositories, and state media.

• Manage data across its full lifecycle, from initial acquisition and parsing through cleaning, enrichment, validation, and delivery into Datenna's platform, maintaining rigorous standards so that every data point is traceable, accurate, and defensible.

• Work closely with the Data Lead to uphold and continuously refine data quality benchmarks, contributing observations from collection and testing work to improve automated pipelines.

Product development

• Play an active role in Datenna's data-driven product development cycle, contributing China domain expertise to the design, testing, and refinement of new platform features and data products.

• Contribute to the development and improvement of Datenna's proprietary risk labelling systems, drawing on hands-on OSINT experience to identify edge cases and improve classification accuracy.

• Help identify gaps in Datenna's existing data coverage and propose new collection approaches or source types to expand platform depth.

Coordination and collaboration

• Coordinate between data researchers and software developers to support smooth data processing pipelines, translating analytical requirements into clear technical specifications.

• Support junior researchers by reviewing outputs, providing guidance on OSINT methodology, and ensuring work meets Datenna's data quality standards.

What makes you a great candidate:

• 3–5 years of hands-on China OSINT experience, including direct collection, verification, and analysis from Chinese-language open sources such as corporate registries, government procurement portals, patent databases, academic repositories, and state media.

• Demonstrable experience contributing to data-driven product development, whether through structured dataset creation, analytical input into software features, or validation of intelligence platform outputs.

• Reading proficiency in Chinese at minimum HSK 5 level. The ability to independently source, interrogate, and extract structured data from Chinese-language materials is essential, as this is a core daily requirement of the role.

• Strong knowledge of China's corporate sector, technology and research landscape, industrial policy, and the intersection of state, military, and commercial actors, with the ability to identify entity-level connections across Datenna's key domains.

• Proficiency in both qualitative and quantitative research methods, with experience producing analytical outputs for non-specialist audiences.

• Familiarity with data analysis tools such as Python, R, or SQL. Comfortable working with large structured datasets and contributing to data pipelines.

• A postgraduate qualification in Chinese Studies, International Relations, Security Studies, or a related field is preferred.
