Civil Engineer - Water Resources & Drainage Design Location: New York, NY (Hybrid) Schedule: 3 Days In Office | 2 Days Remote Experience Level: Mid-Senior Level (5-8 Years) Industry: Civil Engineering & Municipal Infrastructure About the Opportunity A growing engineering consulting firm is seeking a Civil Engineer with experience in water resources, drainage, stormwater, and sewer infrastructure design to support a diverse portfolio of municipal, waterfront, and environmental infrastructure projects throughout New York City. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to all phases of project development, including planning, modeling, design, permitting, and construction support. The ideal candidate will have strong technical experience with drainage and sewer systems, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, and coordination with regulatory agencies on complex infrastructure projects. Key Responsibilities Design and prepare plans for storm drainage, sanitary sewer, and combined sewer infrastructure projects Perform hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) analyses and modeling for drainage and stormwater management systems Develop drainage reports, engineering calculations, modeling summaries, and feasibility studies Support waterfront and coastal infrastructure projects involving drainage conveyance systems, outfalls, and resiliency improvements Coordinate with local, state, and federal agencies to support permitting efforts Evaluate site constraints related to wetlands, floodplains, coastal zones, and environmentally sensitive areas Collaborate with project managers, environmental scientists, surveyors, and permitting specialists throughout project delivery Prepare engineering studies, construction documents, technical specifications, and cost estimates Coordinate with clients, regulatory agencies, and multidisciplinary project teams Support projects from planning and design through construction and project closeout Required Qualifications 5-8 years of experience in water resources, drainage, sewer, and infrastructure engineering Experience with drainage design, sanitary sewer design, stormwater management systems, and permitting activities Strong background in hydrologic and hydraulic analysis and modeling Experience preparing drainage reports, technical memoranda, modeling summaries, and feasibility studies Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D Proficiency in HydroCAD and StormCAD Experience supporting infrastructure projects within New York City Familiarity with NYC DEP standards and infrastructure requirements Strong written and verbal communication skills Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment Preferred Qualifications Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or Professional Engineer (PE) license Experience with waterfront infrastructure, shoreline projects, coastal resiliency, or outfall design Familiarity with EPA SWMM , HEC-RAS , ICPR , or similar modeling software Experience with SWPPP development and combined sewer overflow mitigation projects Knowledge of green infrastructure design principles Experience coordinating with agencies such as NYC DEP, NYSDEC, USACE, and local municipalities Prior project management experience Desired Skills Stormwater Management Water Resources Engineering Drainage Design Sewer Infrastructure Design Hydrologic & Hydraulic Modeling AutoCAD Civil 3D HydroCAD StormCAD EPA SWMM Green Infrastructure Coastal Resiliency Permitting Coordination Waterfront Infrastructure Flood Mitigation Project Management What You'll Bring Strong technical engineering and design capabilities Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills Experience producing high-quality technical reports and documentation Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality Ability to navigate permitting and regulatory requirements Excellent organization and time management skills Interest in continued professional development and licensure advancement Why Consider This Opportunity? Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $130000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
