Want to own municipal projects from first sketch to final seal, and see them built in the community you call home? ISL is growing on Vancouver Island and we are looking for an Intermediate to Senior Civil Engineer to lead the design and delivery of municipal infrastructure and urban transportation projects from our Victoria office. You will sign drawings, run your own projects, manage construction and build lasting relationships with Island municipalities, all with the support of a multidisciplinary firm of about 650 people across Western Canada.

About the Role
- Lead the design of municipal infrastructure projects (roads, intersections, active transportation, water, sanitary and storm systems) from concept through detailed design.
- Review, seal and authenticate drawings, specifications and engineering reports as Engineer of Record.
- Manage scope, schedule, budget and fees across several concurrent projects, keeping clients informed and projects on track.
- Deliver urban transportation designs, including complete streets, multi-use pathways, traffic calming, intersection improvements and pedestrian and cycling upgrades.
- Lead contract administration through tender and construction: bid review, contractor coordination, progress payments, change orders, site reviews and project close-out.
- Prepare tender packages, cost estimates and design briefs that meet Master Municipal Construction Documents (MMCD) and local municipal standards.
- Act as a primary contact for municipal and regional district clients and build long-term relationships across the Island.
- Coordinate with ISL transportation, land, environmental and structural teams, as well as subconsultants, to deliver integrated solutions.
- Mentor Engineers-in-Training (EITs) and technologists, review their work and support their path to professional registration.
- Contribute to proposals and help shape the growth of ISL’s Vancouver Island practice.
About the Team
Our Vancouver Island team works out of three offices: downtown Victoria, Nanaimo and our newest location in Courtenay. We are a close, growing group delivering municipal, transportation and land development projects for communities across the Island. Because the team is still growing, you will have a real say in the projects we pursue and how we deliver them. You will also have the backing of OneISL, with specialists in transportation, bridges, structures, land and environment across 16+ offices ready to support your projects.
Who we are looking for:
Your application should highlight the following:
- A municipal or urban transportation project you led through design and construction, including your role as designer or Engineer of Record.
- How you have managed project budgets, schedules and client relationships on municipal work.
- Contract administration experience on municipal construction projects, from tender to close-out.
Your resume must display:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Registration as a P.Eng. or P.L.Eng. with Engineers and Geoscientists BC
- 5-10 years of experience in municipal infrastructure design and project delivery.
- Experience preparing, checking and sealing drawings and specifications.
- Contract administration and construction services experience on municipal projects.
- Urban transportation design experience (roadways, intersections, active transportation).
Assets:
- Experience working with Vancouver Island or other BC local governments.
- MMCD Contract Administrator registration
- Working knowledge of MMCD and the BC Supplement to the Transportation Association of Canada (TAC) Geometric Design Guide.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or hydraulic modelling software.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) designation or progress toward it.
- Valid BC driver’s licence.

Depending on your experience level, the salary range (based on a 40-hour work week) is:
$80,000 to $140,000 annually
