Show job description

As Clinical Governance Assurance Lead, you’ll lead complex governance, safeguarding and assurance matters across The Owl, working closely with the Governance Manager, Clinical Leadership Team, Senior Leaders and Managers. You’ll provide clear advice, practical support and effective processes covering Subject Access Requests (SARs), clinical risk, clinical audit and effectiveness, patient safety, incidents, regulatory compliance, safeguarding and complaints. As Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, you’ll also support the Clinical Leadership Team with PSIRF and the wider clinical governance portfolio. You’ll help leaders assure senior leaders and stakeholders that governance and safeguarding systems work effectively, turning learning into improvements that strengthen safe, effective, well-governed services.

Please Note: This role is a permanent full-time hybrid position, a blend of home work and office presence - we ask for 2 days a week in our Pontypool Office and 3 days from home.

Salary: Up to £37,000

What you'll be doing:

Quality, Governance and Client Safety

  • Lead agreed governance and assurance activity across The Owl, providing practical advice and support to clinical colleagues, senior leaders and managers so responsibilities are understood, processes are followed consistently, progress against governance objectives is evidenced, and risks are identified early and escalated with clear information and recommendations.
  • Coordinate incident review, investigation oversight, escalation and learning by reviewing incident information, identifying cases requiring investigation, formal review, management action or escalation, and maintaining clear governance records and tracked actions, so concerns progress through appropriate routes, Duty of Candour requirements are met and improvements are embedded in practice.
  • Prepare and present regular governance data, themes and assurance reports, working with clinical and governance colleagues to support PSIRF-aligned systems for sharing learning from investigations, reviews and events, so leaders can make informed decisions, respond to risks and ensure key messages are communicated clearly and actions followed through.
  • Support the Governance Manager with day-to-day oversight and maintenance of the clinical governance aspects of NEST, ensuring incident, patient safety, safeguarding, compliance, complaints and risk management processes are appropriately recorded, monitored and progressed to support effective governance and client safety.
  • Lead the development of a document management system and support local governance and assurance policies and procedures, promoting good document management practice and timely review while collaborating across the clinical governance structure and wider teams and maintaining close relationships with the Change Team, so data and themes inform practical service improvements and governance learning aligns with improvement activity.

Leadership and Management

  • Support the Clinical Governance Admin team day to day by setting clear expectations, allocating work effectively and clarifying priorities, responsibilities and objectives, so everyone understands their role and can complete work to the required standard.
  • Hold regular one-to-ones and team meetings, offering feedback, coaching and training so colleagues feel supported to develop, take responsibility for their work and contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Manage performance, attendance and conduct matters by following Owl processes fairly and consistently and escalating where appropriate, so colleagues receive clear guidance and concerns are addressed with care.

Education and Development

  • Participate in the delivery of clinical governance and safeguarding training as required, supporting colleagues to understand their responsibilities and apply learning in practice

We'd love it if you have:

  • Knowledge or experience gained in clinical governance, assurance, safeguarding, risk or healthcare.
  • Practical experience applying governance and assurance principles to support effective oversight, reporting, learning and improvement.
  • Experience in safeguarding, risk, incidents, complaints or client safety within health or care services, alongside knowledge of risk management principles, clinical audit and effectiveness, regulatory compliance and learning from events.
  • Experience supporting or leading a team, alongside preparing reports, analysing themes or trends and presenting information to support assurance, decision-making and service improvement.
