Job Summary
The Clinical Insights Solutions Lead, Data & Insights (D&I) serves as a strategic analytics partner throughout the commercial process, collaborating with Business Development to translate complex sponsor and CRO questions into rigorous, data-driven insights. The role evaluates study placement, site enrollment potential, and historical operational performance to develop defensible recommendations that strengthen WCG proposals and inform client decision-making.
This is a hands-on, client-facing analytical role. This position scopes and runs the analyses themselves: site targeting and site identification, operational performance benchmarking, protocol deep-dives, competitive trial landscape assessments, and enrolment feasibility modelling. They then present the findings directly to clients, translating methodology and its limits into language a clinical operations lead can act on.
The role partners closely with Business Development, Data & Insights delivery teams, product, and therapeutic subject matter experts to qualify client needs, position the right combination of data, analytics, and advisory services, and ensure the operational assumptions sold are the ones that hold up once the work is awarded.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The accountabilities listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.
Solution Consulting & Client Engagement
- Partners with Business Development to qualify client business and technical needs, then scopes the data, analytics, and advisory solution that answers them within the value and timeline of the opportunity.
- Serves as the analytical voice in client meetings, capability presentations, product demonstrations, bid defenses, and strategic workshops, presenting findings and defending methodology under scrutiny.
- Acts as subject matter expert on WCG’s data assets, analytical products, and consulting capabilities, and advises clients on which combination fits their question rather than defaulting to the largest scope.
- Authors the data and insights content of proposals, RFI and RFP responses, and follow-up materials, ensuring the narrative and the numbers agree.
Site Targeting & Site Identification
- Designs and executes site identification analyses, combining trial landscape data, investigator performance history, epidemiology, referral patterns, and site-level operational metrics.
- Builds ranked, defensible site and country lists with explicit selection logic, so that internal teams and clients can see why a site made the list — and why others did not.
- Assesses site capability against protocol-specific requirements (procedures, equipment, staffing, patient population, prior experience in the indication) rather than generic historical volume.
- Flags concentration risk, competing-trial overlap, and over-solicited sites early enough to influence country allocation and enrolment assumptions.
Operational Performance & Benchmarking
- Produces operational performance analyses — start-up cycle times, screen failure and dropout rates, enrolment rate distributions, query and deviation rates — benchmarked against comparable studies rather than portfolio-wide averages.
- Applies and documents benchmarking methodology, including cohort selection, normalization, small-sample handling, and known sources of bias in the underlying data.
- Diagnoses historical underperformance in analogous studies and converts those findings into specific, actionable mitigations in the proposed approach.
- Maintains a reusable library of benchmarks, assumptions, and analytical templates so that recurring questions are answered consistently across opportunities.
Protocol Deep-Dives & Feasibility
- Conducts protocol deep-dives that identify the design elements most likely to drive screen failures, site burden, patient dropout, or start-up delay, and quantify their impact where the data supports it.
- Models the operational trade-offs of protocol alternatives — eligibility criteria, visit schedule, assessment burden, decentralized elements — to support protocol optimization conversations with clients.
- Translates protocol requirements into enrolment models and realistic timeline scenarios, stating assumptions and confidence ranges explicitly rather than presenting single-point estimates.
- Pressure-tests analytical conclusions with therapeutic, regulatory, and ethical review subject matter experts before they reach the client.
Data, Product & Continuous Improvement
- Feeds gaps identified in live engagements back to Data Engineering and Product to improve the underlying data assets, tooling, and analytical workflows.
- Documents methodology and maintains version control over analytical approaches so results are reproducible and auditable.
- Conducts post-award and post-loss reviews of analytical assumptions, feeding what actually happened back into future models and benchmarks.
- Coaches Business Development colleagues and junior analysts on framing analytical questions, interpreting outputs, and recognizing the limits of the evidence. Participates in webinars, podcasts, conference sessions, and published thought leadership as appropriate to share expertise with clients and the wider industry.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor, which may occasionally be unrelated to the position described here.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, epidemiology, biostatistics, health economics, data science, or a related quantitative field is required
- Advanced degree (MSc, MPH, MBA, PhD, PharmD) preferred
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSE/REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS:
- ACRP/SOCRA, PMP, or a recognized data science or analytics certification preferred
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
- 5+ years of experience in clinical research, clinical trial intelligence, or healthcare data and analytics, with at least 3 years in a role centered on feasibility, site selection, operational analytics, or clinical data analysis
- Demonstrated experience working directly with sponsor- or CRO-side stakeholders in a pre-sale, consultative, or advisory capacity
- Practical familiarity with clinical trial data sources — trial registries, investigator and site databases, CTMS and EDC outputs, claims and EHR-derived real-world data, and published literature — including a working understanding of their gaps and biases
- Experience across multiple therapeutic areas and study phases; exposure to oncology, rare disease, or cell and gene therapy is an advantage
- Demonstrated ability to conduct hands-on analysis using SQL and at least one analytical environment, such as Python or R, or an equivalent combination of advanced business intelligence, visualization, and modeling tools.
- Ability to explain methodology and uncertainty to a non-technical audience
- Strong data visualization and storytelling skills; produces materials that stand on their own when the client forwards them internally
- Demonstrated ability to communicate data limitations objectively and distinguish evidence-supported conclusions from assumptions.
- Ability to work to compressed proposal deadlines across several concurrent opportunities, and to judge how much analytical depth a given opportunity warrants
- Ability to present complex analyses credibly and effectively to senior internal and external stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of ICH-GCP and FDA regulations as they relate to research
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality of client, sponsor, and site-level data
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and CRM platforms
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: 10% to 20%
