Job Summary
Responsible for overseeing and coordinating coding operations, with a primary focus on workflow management, operational efficiency, work queue oversight, and process optimization. This role ensures the timely and accurate progression of accounts through the coding lifecycle by monitoring productivity, coordinating resources, resolving workflow issues, supporting system and process improvements, and maintaining compliance with organizational policies and operational standards. The position collaborates with coding leadership, revenue cycle teams, and external vendors to identify opportunities for process enhancement, implement operational initiatives, and support organizational performance goals.
Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Experience
- 2+ years of experience in outpatient coding required
- 1+ years of experience in a supervisory or coordinator role preferred
- Experience working with EHR and/or healthcare coding systems preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems and coding software.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, Teams, and Microsoft Forms.
Essential Functions
- Monitor workflow performance, work queues, and operational metrics to ensure established service standards and productivity goals are met.
- Analyze workflow trends, identify opportunities for process improvement, and collaborate with leadership and cross-functional teams to implement operational enhancements.
- Prepare and distribute recurring and ad hoc reports, dashboards, and operational summaries for leadership.
- Investigate operational and coding-related issues, identify root causes, and develop recommendations to improve efficiency, quality, reimbursement outcomes, and workflow performance.
- Maintain tracking systems, databases, and reporting tools used to monitor operational activities, audit findings, denials, reviews, appeals, and other key performance indicators.
- Utilize reporting and analytics tools to analyze coding and operational performance, identify trends, and support data-driven decision-making.
- Develop and deliver training programs for coding staff on coding updates, operational processes, system enhancements, and best practices.
- Coordinate onboarding and offboarding activities for coding staff, including system access, user account management, and related operational support.
- Collaborate with clinical, billing, compliance, and operational stakeholders to resolve issues, improve workflows, support accurate reimbursement, and achieve organizational goals.
