Colombian lawyer for immigration firm

Rupert Law | E2 Visa | E1 Visa
Posted 3 hours ago
🇨🇴Colombia🏠Remote📁Legal & Compliance
Is this job info correct?

Are you a Colombian licensed lawyer who needs a break from the law firm grind? Whether you want to travel the world, write a novel, or spend more time with family — this is the career opportunity for you!

Great news for weary attorneys

Work from wherever in the world you are!

No traffic!

No court appearances!

Very few government deadlines!

Excellent and experienced support staff!

About this opportunity

You will be in charge of all client electronic documentation — reviewing, editing, writing and assembling. You will ultimately have a caseload of approximately 30-40 active cases. Every M-F, you will present client updates to two attorneys on calls, and you will write numerous clear and concise emails that answer attorney and client questions and update them as to the status of their cases. Most importantly, you will be in charge of organization and management of all case documents from beginning to end. You must keep up with the cases (approximately 30-40 active cases) and know where all clients are within their legal journey at all times. You must be incredibly organized in order to stay on top of each case. You will also assemble legal applications based on voluminous documentation. You will take notes given verbally by attorneys and implement all changes in all locations throughout voluminous applications (300 pages +) and government records. You will have training for the first 6-8 weeks, but you should be incredibly comfortable reviewing and editing financial and legal documents, speaking to and emailing attorneys in professional legal, yet clear and concise English.

Time commitment

This is a completely remote position, but two attorneys are relying on you for all document review/editing. You must be available for calls and document reviews/edits weekdays from 9 am to 4 pm local Time. (That said, there will be downtime during the day.) You must be available every weekday at 9:45 am and again at 3:30 pm for team calls. Therefore, someone with a full-time job will not be a good fit for this position. If you are organized and efficient, you can expect to work only 4-5 weekends and 12-15 evenings per year. The rest of your time can be dedicated to relaxing, family or hobbies.

Personality traits

Prior co-workers, supervisors and clients should describe you as cheerful, organized, honest, reliable, efficient and loyal. These personality traits are prioritized above all other skills. You should have the work ethic of a lawyer (but there are few “legal emergencies.”) When a legal emergency/attorney emergency happens, you need to be able to quickly pick up and get through the emergency efficiently and effectively.

Experience

Your experience should include reviewing, editing and/or writing business purchase agreements and/or franchise agreements. You should also be able to “tick and tie” voluminous financial records together to trace source of investments. You should be familiar with financial records including P&L and balance sheets (you won’t need to create them, just review them) and various corporate entities (you won’t be creating them, but you should understand multi-level corporate structures). Basic familiarity with corporate tax filings and business plans is a plus. Exceptional knowledge of “The Office” and “30 Rock” is a huge plus.

Skills

Must be a licensed lawyer in Colombia.

Your skill set should include hyper-organization of 30-40 active cases; daily weekday interaction with two U.S. immigration attorneys; unparalleled editing legal documents (PDFs); concise, timely and thorough written and spoken communication with attorneys; incredible time management skills; “ticking and tying” financial documents; and billing experience. You should also be willing to learn and practice our proprietary case management systems and processes. You should be familiar with WhatsApp, Dropbox, Microsoft Office and Adobe PDF editor, as you will be using these programs every day.

Background

In addition to at least two years of experience working as a lawyer in a law firm, your background must include sales and/or customer service experience. (Work experience in retail or hospitality businesses will be given extra consideration!)

About us

We are a corporate immigration firm focused on helping our clients seeking E2 visas and E1 visas. These visas are for entrepreneurs who are moving to the U.S. to run businesses. We advise our clients about the documents needed in order to apply for the E2 visas and E1 visas, we review and assemble those documents, and we typically send them to U.S. consulates and embassies around the world for review with the hope of visa approvals for our clients. We have a diverse clientele from all over the world who start and/or buy businesses in all states. Our clients are sophisticated, but they need specific legal guidance for meeting visa requirements.
