We are looking for an experienced Commercial Fencing Estimator to join our team remotely. The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing project plans, completing accurate quantity take-offs, preparing Bills of Quantities (BOQs), calculating material and labour costs, and supporting the preparation of competitive quotations for commercial fencing projects.

The ideal candidate has previous experience in commercial fencing, civil construction, steel fabrication, or a related construction industry, preferably with experience working on Australian projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Review architectural, civil, structural, and construction drawings to determine fencing requirements.
• Perform accurate quantity take-offs for commercial fencing projects.
• Measure fence runs, gates, posts, panels, mesh, rails, fittings, and other required components.
• Prepare detailed Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
• Estimate materials, labour, equipment, installation, and other project costs.
• Estimate different fencing systems, including:
• Chainwire / chain-link fencing
• 358 anti-climb mesh fencing
• Palisade fencing
• Tubular fencing
• High-security fencing
• Temporary fencing
• Timber hoarding
• Storage cages
• Swing and sliding gates
• Automated gates
• Razor wire and other security fencing systems
• Review project specifications and identify scope, inclusions, exclusions, and potential variations.
• Obtain and compare supplier pricing for fencing materials and related products.
• Calculate quantities and pricing using project drawings and specifications.
• Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates and quotations.
• Identify potential project risks, discrepancies, missing information, and cost variations.
• Assist with tender submissions and commercial proposals.
• Liaise with suppliers and internal project teams to clarify pricing and technical requirements.
• Work closely with draftsmen, project managers, and operations teams to ensure estimates accurately reflect the project scope.
• Maintain organized estimating files, pricing schedules, supplier information, and project documentation.
• Update estimates when drawings, specifications, or project requirements change.

Required Skills & Experience

• 3+ years of experience in construction estimating, preferably within the fencing industry.
• Previous experience with commercial fencing, security fencing, civil construction, steel fabrication, or similar industries.
• Strong ability to read and interpret:
• Architectural drawings
• Civil drawings
• Structural drawings
• Site plans
• Construction specifications
• Strong experience with quantity take-offs and BOQ preparation.
• Someone who is experienced and has a good understanding of fencing materials, installation methods, labour requirements, and construction processes
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to identify discrepancies and potential scope gaps.
• Strong Excel skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple estimates and deadlines.
• Good written and verbal English communication skills.
• Australian construction estimating experience is highly desirable.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience estimating commercial fencing projects, rather than only general residential construction.

They should understand the relationship between drawings → take-offs → materials → labour → installation → final project cost and be able to produce accurate estimates with minimal supervision.

Experience with Australian commercial construction projects, builders, tendering processes, and Australian construction terminology will be highly advantageous.
