About the role

We are looking for a Commercial Finance Business Partner to support the Commercial Finance Director in executing SMG’s commercial finance agenda, ensuring that our client teams are effectively supported to deliver against both revenue and profitability targets.

You will work closely with Partnership Directors, client teams and operational stakeholders to ensure that revenue opportunities are appropriately commercialised, with clear pricing, robust financial modelling and well-structured contractual terms; and play an active role in supporting commercial decision making, providing insight, challenge and recommendations to improve outcomes.

You will also support the development of the tools, processes and analysis used to understand performance across the business, helping to improve visibility of revenue, margin and client profitability. As we build out our FP&A capability, this role will work closely with that function to ensure a strong link between financial performance, commercial decision making and business execution.

What you’ll do

  • Support Partnership Directors and client teams in building and reviewing commercial models, including scenario analysis, pricing and deal structures.

  • Support the business in improving commercial discipline, including maintaining an accurate contracts register and ensuring that agreements are complete, signed and aligned to agreed terms.

  • Identify risks and gaps in current processes and escalate issues with recommended actions.

  • Carry out project based client and campaign performance to understand key drivers of margin and operating expenses, supporting a clearer view of profitability, using this insight to highlight opportunities to improve performance, including pricing, scope and contractual terms.

  • Support the development and application of pricing frameworks, including rate cards, commercial costings and overhead recovery models, ensuring that pricing reflects the true cost to serve and delivers appropriate margins.

  • Work closely with commercial stakeholders across the business, contributing to discussions, providing financial insight and offering constructive challenge where required.

What you'll bring

  • Proven experience in a commercial finance or business partnering role supporting revenue-generating teams.

  • Experience in building and reviewing commercial models, including pricing, deal evaluation and scenario analysis.

  • Strong commercial awareness, with a good understanding of revenue and margin drivers.

  • A confident and proactive business partnering approach, with the ability to challenge assumptions and contribute effectively in discussions with stakeholders.

  • Ability to analyse financial and commercial information and translate it into clear, practical insight.

  • Advanced spreadsheet skills in Excel and/or Google Sheets, with experience building robust, well-structured commercial and financial models.

  • Inquisitive mindset with a willingness to ask questions, challenge where appropriate and improve how things are done.

  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to hold their own in a room.

  • Experience working in media and advertising or similar commercial environment would be highly advantageous.

  • Qualified accountant from ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent.

We're looking for people who enjoy the buzz of change, the satisfaction of building something better, and the joy of working with a close-knit, values-driven team. If you love variety, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and embrace change with energy, this could be your right role.
