The Company
Our client is a well-established asset owner and developer with a substantial operating portfolio and one of the most significant renewable development pipelines in the country. With strong financial backing and a clear commitment to accelerating renewable delivery, the business is entering an exciting phase of growth.
The culture is open, transparent and hardworking, built on good communication, and safety as a priority.
Your role
This newly created position offers the chance to own the project’s commercial position across three principal contracts covering turbine supply, balance of plant and transmission. You will protect the company’s position both upstream to the board, lenders and equity partners, and downstream to the contractors, while building and leading a team of four direct reports.
Key responsibilities include:
- Protecting the commercial position across all principal contracts, managing interfaces between counterparties and ensuring contractual compliance
- Managing commercial risk, extension of time claims, variations and dispute resolution in support of the Project Manager
- Delivering clear, timely and accurate reporting to the board, equity partners and lenders on commercial risk, budget and schedule
- Leading project budgeting and forecasting, building financial models and analysing variances to identify savings
- Developing business cases to support or decline variations and managing expenditure budgets alongside Finance
- Establishing governance for project delivery and reporting within the contractual framework
- Building strong relationships with senior EPC contractors and internal teams including Finance, Treasury, Tax and Strategy
- Recruiting, shaping and leading the commercial team
- Leading by example on health, safety and environmental standards
Your background & experience
- Tertiary qualification
- Proven experience working in a client-side role on major projects, with a strong understanding of where commercial risk sits
- 10+ years in roles that develop and enhance business & project strategy and process
- Strong project management and financial analysis skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage EOT claims, variations and disputes
- Experience leading and building a team
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to communicate commercial risk clearly to a board and senior stakeholders
- Resilience in a complex, changing environment and a willingness to ask questions and challenge assumptions
Preferred experience includes renewables exposure, experience managing multi-contract construction projects, an energy or utilities construction background and exposure to project finance (note: these are not must-haves)
Benefits to you
This is a rare opportunity to join a landmark renewable project early enough to set the governance and reporting it runs on. You will have genuine board level exposure, the chance to build your own team, and a clear pathway into a substantial pipeline of future renewable projects.
The role is based in a Perth office with 1 to 2 days working from home per week, flexible start and finish times, minimal site visits, limited travel and no FIFO.
