The UK EV charging market is now entering a more commercially demanding phase. Achieving success will depend on operating the right sites, in the right locations, with the right propositions, pricing, reliability and customer experience to turn installed infrastructure into profitable, sustainable growth.

As bp pulse UK sharpens its focus on utilisation, profitability, capital efficiency and execution, every charge, site, pricing decision and investment choice must supply to stronger customer satisfaction and improved business performance.

The Commercial Performance & Optimisation Manager sits at the centre of that agenda, connecting commercial strategy, planning, pricing, power economics, performance analytics, investment governance and improvement activity into a value-creation plan.

This is a rare opportunity to shape the commercial performance engine of one of the UK’s most recognised EV charging businesses. The successful candidate will influence where bp pulse invests, how it prices, how it runs power economics, how it improves utilisation and how it turns a national charging network into stronger customer outcomes and sustainable commercial returns.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Performance, Planning & Optimisation

  • Drive the commercial performance framework for bp pulse UK, providing visibility of performance, opportunities, risks and required interventions.

  • Lead annual planning, forecasting and in-year performance management processes.

  • Drive performance improvement initiatives that increase revenue, utilisation, profitability and customer outcomes.

  • Connect site, portfolio and P&L performance to improve decision-making, prioritisation and investment prioritisation

Pricing, Revenue & Power Optimisation

  • Lead pricing, revenue and margin optimisation across the UK network, balancing customer value, market appeal, utilisation and profitability.

  • Steer the commercial agenda for power optimisation, working with internal energy, trading and procurement teams to maximise margin and handle risk.

  • Partner with Product and Technology teams to develop future pricing capabilities, including dynamic pricing, targeted offers and utilisation-led interventions.

  • Ensure robust governance, controls and decision-making frameworks for pricing and commercial optimisation activity.

Commercial Analytics & Governance

  • Build a forward-looking commercial insight capability that identifies performance trends, risks and value opportunities.

  • Ensure strategic decisions are supported by robust analysis, financial modelling and commercial recommendations.

  • Strengthen investment governance, case development and post-investment performance reviews.

  • Maintain effective governance for pricing, discounts, rebates and other material commercial decisions.

Leadership & Customer Management

  • Lead, mentor/ develop a high-performing Commercial Operations & Performance team.

  • Act as a trusted commercial partner to UK leadership, Finance and key functional teams.

  • Influence decision-making across Network Optimisation, Customer Growth, Product, Digital, BUILD and RUN functions.

  • Develop an environment of commercial rigor, accountability and continuous improvement.

Team Structure & Success Measures

This role directly influences bp pulse UK's profitability, network economics, pricing strategy, power economics, investment decisions and commercial governance. Key reporting positions include the Pricing & Power Lead and Planning & Performance Analyst.

Success will be measured through:

  • Improved profitability, gross margin and commercial returns.

  • Increased utilisation, charging sessions and energy demand.

  • Improved forecasting accuracy and commercial performance visibility.

  • Stronger investment and capital allocation decisions.

  • Effective pricing governance and commercial controls.

The appointed candidate will expertly move between detailed analysis and executive-level decision support, using insight to shape commercial choices and deliver measurable business performance improvements.

They will not simply report performance. They will shape the choices, capability and interventions needed to improve it, balancing commercial ambition with practical delivery, customer outcomes and strong partner judgement.

Crucial Experience

  • Significant experience in commercial performance, business planning, pricing, revenue management, commercial finance, strategy execution or similar leadership roles.

  • Proven track record of improving profitability, revenue growth or business performance through data-led interventions.

  • Strong financial and commercial competence, including business cases, modelling, forecasting and investment evaluation.

  • Experience translating sophisticated analysis into practical recommendations and measurable outcomes.

  • Strong understanding of commercial value drivers including pricing, utilisation, margin, customer behaviour and return on investment.

  • Experience influencing senior customers and leading high-performing teams within sophisticated matrix organisations.

  • Understanding of the relationship between power procurement, energy costs, pricing strategy and commercial margin.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience in EV charging, energy, mobility, infrastructure, telecommunications, retail or other data-rich, asset-intensive sectors.

  • Experience in pricing, revenue management, commercial analytics or performance management.

  • Understanding of power economics, energy procurement or related commercial energy topics.

  • Experience supporting strategic investment and capital allocation decisions.

  • Experience operating in high-growth or transformation environments.

Qualifications

  • BA, BSc, BEng or equivalent experience preferred.

  • Qualifications in finance, economics, business, engineering, analytics or a related rigor are advantageous but not crucial.

  • Proven commercial impact and performance improvement are more important than any specific academic qualification.
