We are currently seeking a Community Impact Specialist to join our team.
The Community Impact Specialist plays a key role in planning, delivering, and measuring community impact initiatives. This role focuses on social and environmental outcomes that benefit the community, aligning with corporate strategies and goals. The specialist works closely with various teams to transform the community investment portfolios into an impact portfolio, tracks impact metrics, supports employee engagement, and enhances community partnerships.
Here’s what would be included as a part of your typical day
- Program and Grant Assessment: Tracks, assesses, and reports on the effectiveness and impact of initiatives, partnerships, and the overall program. Coordinates and participates in the evaluation of grant applications to identify projects that align with strategic approaches and recommends funding decisions, alongside local and impact leaders. Implements the Community Impact assessment framework to measure the social and environmental outcomes of community impact initiatives.
- Trend Monitoring and Alignment: Stays informed on trends, issues, and best practices related to social responsibility and community development. Contributes to the execution of impact partnership and ensures their alignment to corporate goals. Conducts regular reviews of industry reports and research to inform program development.
- Communications: Promotes opportunities and benefits of participating in impact program initiatives to ensure strong engagement and enhances a culture of inclusion and impact. Delivers compelling and persuasive content to highlight engagement opportunities, profile partnerships, celebrate achievements, and share success stories. Executes comprehensive communication strategies to raise awareness of community impact initiatives both internally and externally.
- Volunteer Program Management: Oversees the day-to-day management of the volunteer program, including facilitating group volunteer efforts and responding to inquiries. Collaborates with Do Some Good (DSG) to enhance community engagement and social impact initiatives. This includes managing relationships with DSG representatives, integrating DSG's platform into our community programs, and ensuring alignment with our sustainability goals. Develops and implements volunteer recruitment, training, and retention strategies to build a strong and engaged volunteer base.
- Community Engagement and Reporting: Supports the Community Engagement/Investment Program, including preparing reports for senior leadership and supporting the year-end reconciliation process. Supports measurement and reporting delivery, ensuring adequate year-end reporting and connecting results to impact measurement reporting. Identifies and manages opportunities that contribute to meeting UNPRB targets, including collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. Develops and maintains a comprehensive reporting system to track and communicate the impact of community engagement activities.
- Partner Engagement: Proactively identifies opportunities to connect employees to the work of partners, sharing learning internally. Coordinates branch visits, prepares presentation material, and manages pre- and post-communication with leaders. Develops and maintains strong relationships with community partners to enhance collaboration and maximize impact. Participates in regular meetings and communication with partners to ensure alignment and progress towards shared goals.
- Budget: Participates in the management of budgets for community impact initiatives, ensuring efficient use of resources and alignment with strategic priorities. Tracks budget performance, identifies opportunities for cost savings and improved efficiency.
Required Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- 3-4 years’ experience in marketing, event management, social impact, or community relations roles.
- A 2-year post-secondary certificate or diploma in Corporate Social Responsibility, Communications, Marketing, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Experience with social giving platforms, digital donation software, and other technology solutions supporting grant writing, review, and partnership intake.
- Knowledge of corporate social responsibility, social purpose, social finance, and shared value creation.
- Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Strong understanding of the charitable sector, non-profit management, community giving programs, social impact best practices, and employee engagement.
- Ability to gather, analyze, and communicate complex social issues.
- Project management and planning skills, relationship building and maintenance skills, flexibility, and initiative.
- Understanding of the Credit Union System
- Solid understanding of budgeting and vendor/supplier management.
- Focused and concise written and verbal summaries and effective questioning and listening skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, including Teams, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Displays an understanding of risk and risk ownership by being able to demonstrate adherence to policies and procedures.
